Veterinary Technician – Leslie A. Malone Center – Dumb Friends League – Denver, CO

The Veterinary Technician position has a high level of responsibility and impact on the Dumb Friends League. This individual will utilize their technical abilities to create and assist in outcomes for animals at the shelter and beyond. Veterinary technicians collaborate with all other departments within the League to provide animal handling and treatment, along with training and leadership.
The candidate selected for this role will be a certified veterinary technician or have relevant proven experience in surgery and emergency medicine. The ideal candidate will have exceptional customer service experience, proven ability to be a team player and ability to independently problem solve.
Responsibilities

  • Perform physical examination and provide treatment for animals flagged as needing medical attention.
  • Medicate, and treat animals as prescribed by veterinarian and follow standard operating protocols.
  • Vaccinate shelter animals as needed
  • Provide medical assistance and counseling to patrons.
  • Collect samples for testing and perform laboratory tests.
  • Take radiographs.
  • Administer anesthesia and monitor animals under anesthesia.
  • Place IV catheters, calculate drug dosages and fluid rates.
  • Assist veterinarians in medical and surgical procedures.
  • Use and maintain medical equipment.
  • Perform euthanasia and other related tasks.
  • Perform data entry to update animal records.
  • Clean and maintain work areas.
  • Contribute to and lead initiatives to improve processes and procedures.
  • Place IV catheters, calculate drug dosages and fluid rates.
  • Complete cleaning and administrative projects as assigned.
  • Complete mobile spay/neuter shifts (service provided for public pets) as needed once trained.
  • Complete swing-shift or overnight-shifts as needed once trained.
  • Solicit feedback and remain open to feedback received by management and team members.

Compensation: Starting at $19 per hour (uncertified); $20 per hour (certified veterinary technicians); (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity)
