Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs duties, under direction of Manager of Referrals and Medical Records, in processing referrals to promote coordination of patient care. Under the direction of the supervisor, makes interpretations and exercises some discretion in routine situations. Receives and processes referrals for providers in a timely manner. Uses data analytics software and EMR to monitor/improve performance and to participate in patient care team huddles.

Responsibilities:


Primary Duties and Responsibilities
:

  • Receives and processes specialty referral orders from Variety Care providers using electronic medical record system (eClinicalWorks), ensuring timely coordination of specialty care for Variety Care patients.
  • Follows proper procedures to assure pending referrals are complete
  • Documents all referral processing steps throughout multiple stages
  • Explains referral process and procedure to patients
  • Provides exceptional customer service and problem-solving techniques to further the patient’s overall health and well-being via specialty care referrals
  • Coordinates with multiple insurance carriers to obtain necessary authorizations and pre-certifications for patients to receive necessary services
  • Troubleshoots day to day work related issues and provides feedback to supervisor
  • Answers phones, take messages, transfer calls
  • Follows HIPPA guidelines and Variety Care privacy policy and procedures
  • Supports Variety Care’s accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home and our commitment to provide care to all Variety patients that is Safe, Effective, Patient Centered, Timely, Efficient, and Equitable. Provide leadership and work with all staff to achieve the goals of the “Triple Aim” of healthcare reform—to improve the experience of care, improve health outcomes, and decrease healthcare costs
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge
:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Possesses ability to work with the public
  • Experience in data entry
  • Intermediate keyboarding and computer knowledge
  • Able to communicate with patients and staff
  • Trustworthy handling confidential information
  • Organizational skills, able to concentrate and prioritize work
  • Able to work in an active environment with patients and staff
  • Ability to work with difficult patients from time to time
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) beneficial but not required
  • Customer Service skills and team attitude


Preferred Requirements, Special Skills or Knowledge
:

  • Background knowledge of a medical environment


ADA Requirements
:

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • Able to sit for long periods of time
