Supervisor, Nursing – Nursing Administration HH – Providence Sonoma County – Healdsburg, CA

We are looking for a Supervisor, Nursing for the Nursing Administration HH Department at NorCal HealthConnect.

Location: Healdsburg, CA

Work Schedule: Full time – 72 Biweekly hours

Shift: 12 hour, Nights

Job Summary:

The nursing supervisor position provides for supervisory coverage of the Nursing Department, other patient care areas and the hospital in general during the night shift. The Nursing Supervisor duties include provision of managerial direction in the absence of the department managers and the Chief Nursing Officer. The position exercises considerable judgment in applying professional knowledge in solving nursing problems within established policies and practices. Knowledge of utilization review is necessary; however, a Case Manager is always available for advice.

Essential Functions:

  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Attend bedside report with nursing staff on Medical-Surgical and Intensive Care Unit.
  • Assesses patient care requirements on the Medical-Surgical Unit and the Intensive Care Unit, as well as making rounds in the Emergency Department.
  • Serves as a resource to staff for solving clinical problems.
  • Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing resources to meet patient care requirements and other professional responsibilities.
  • Provide for immediate follow-up, documentation and communication of incidents to appropriate manager and CNO.
  • Responds to emergency situations (RRT and Code Blue) and assists as necessary.
  • Acts as a resource in identifying and/or solving administrative/operational issues. Anticipates actual/potential problems that may occur on the shift and sets priorities accordingly.
  • Serves as an administrative authority for the smooth function of all units on assigned shift. If issue is urgent, notifies the Administrator on Call and the Nurse Manager immediately, if non-urgent, can email, text, or speak directly with individuals at the end of the shift.
  • Receives report throughout the shift. Must have knowledge of all prn medications that are being given and acknowledge the need for these medications, i.e., narcotics.
  • Be aware of all restraint use and ensure that the facility policy is followed regarding the ordering and management of the restraints.
  • Randomly audit staff documentation and ensure that documentation is complete.
  • Assist RNs in assessing patients who are experiencing acute changes. Monitor vital signs and with any major changes, ensure that physicians are notified.
  • Give ongoing timely feedback, verbal and written anecdotes, to staff on performance. Written anecdotes are passed on to the nurse manager to be used as part of performance evaluations.
  • Responsible for weekly education for the staff, i.e., policies, disease processes, journal articles. Sign-in sheets and educational material submitted to the Department of Education for files on a weekly basis.
  • Identify and communicate staff needs for continuing education to both the Manager and the Department of Education.
  • Assists and actively participates in survey compliance, quality assurance and staff development duties, as assigned.
  • Be familiar with all codes within the facility policy, i.e., Code Red, Code Stroke, severe weather. Know the procedure for each and direct staff response according to policy.
  • Assists physicians and staff in admission criteria for assigning admission status to patients (observation/admission).
  • Perform any additional/miscellaneous duties (not inclusive of job description) as requested by the management team within the scope of knowledge/ability.
  • Takes an active role in job specific stroke education and training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the department’s objectives.

Skills :

  • Working knowledge of assignment of admission criteria (will review with Case Management).
  • Knowledge of nurse practice act.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education : Coursework/Training – Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience :

  • 5 years of Acute hospital clinical experience.
  • 3 years of Supervisory experience.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current California registered nursing license.
  • Current BLS.
  • Current ACLS.
  • Current PALS (or certification obtained within 60 days of hire).

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

Experience : Critical care experience.
