Entry Level Accountant – General Ledger

We are searching for a Entry Level Accountant – General Ledger at our Middletown, RI location.

Our core business is providing systems, software, and hardware engineering services, as well as test and evaluation services to the Navy, chiefly for submarine electronic systems. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Job Summary:

Apply extensive formal accounting knowledge and acquired experience to independently compute, classify, and record numerical data to keep General Ledger records complete. Perform any combination of critical calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain financial data for use in maintaining General Ledger records. Assure the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings that pertain to business transactions that were recorded by others in the company as required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and analyses of General Ledger accounts; use discretion and judgement to research and determine root cause for issues, omissions, and errors. Make recommendations to address gaps in procedures or processes to avoid continuation of identified issues.
  • Prepare and adjust journal entries for the monthly, quarterly and year-end financial closes, ensuring timely, thorough completion and escalation of issues.
  • Collaborate with purchasing and billing functions to reconcile discrepancies through to resolution.
  • Account for all credit card transactions in Cost Point; reconcile credit card transactions posted to Cost Point to downloaded credit card statements.
  • Serve as the lead for travel-related accounting activity; process and reconcile travel expense reports following company policies and procedures.
  • As department backup, perform all Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, including posting invoices, running A/R and posting cash.
  • Ensure adherence to defined processes and procedures, including the checking of figures, postings, and documents to verify entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper codes.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Complete annual vendor evaluation as part of ISO procedures, including reviewing vendors for ownership classifications, and SCARs; adjust vendor information in Cost Point.
  • Engage internal business partners to provide exemplary customer service; access computerized financial information to answer general questions as well as those related to specific accounts.
  • Perform weekly check runs observing all internal control procedures.
  • As part of the small Accounting and Finance team, perform general office duties such as filing, answering telephones, and handling routine correspondence.
  • Awareness and compliance with company policies and procedures as defined in the SEA CORP Code of Conduct Handbook and Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with an Accounting focus
Experience: 2 years of work experience in an accounting role in a corporate setting or CPA firm is requiredExtensive experience using MS Excel to perform calculations and data analysisUse of computerized accounting systems, including Cost Point, preferred
