Environmental, Health, and Safety Internship – Biomerics – Salt Lake City, UT

Job Description:

The ideal candidate will learn to create and promote a culture of safety within our organization. Jointly assist in programs, policies, and assessments to ensure Biomerics (and its employees) are following all federal and internal health and safety regulations. The candidate’s main area of focus will be to update, gather and otherwise compile company SDS’s. The candidate should be familiar with the following regulatory concepts such as PPE, Electrical Safety, Lockout/Tag out, Blood Borne Pathogen, Machine Guarding, Forklift, Hazard Communication and other programs as the need arises.

Expectations and Areas of development include:

  • Assist EH&S with incident investigations and assist in corrective actions.
  • Assemble and/or update SDS’s for chemicals located on site.
  • Conduct job hazard analysis and recommend preventative/corrective action where EH&S hazards exist.
  • Work independently, as well as in collaboration with the other team members
  • Assist with review and improvement of site initiatives.
  • Interact with all departments to assist with EH&S issues.
  • Assist as needed with monthly safety training programs.
  • Create standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain and create EH&S records.
  • Gain exposure to Hazardous Waste Management.


Requirements:

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s program pursuing EHS Management, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or similar fields.
  • Education courses such as safety and health standards, industrial hygiene, accident prevention, ergonomics, and occupational safety.
  • Basic math/statistical skills
  • Basic knowledge of Federal/State Regulatory Requirements (OSHA, DOT, EPA).
  • Observable knowledge of chemical safety and hygiene.
  • Must be proficient in use of Microsoft office suite.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and time management skills.
