Construction Engineering Inspector – Roadway Inspection

District One: Polk, Hardee, Desoto, Collier, Sarasota, Manatee, Highlands, Okeechobee, Hendry, Charlotte, Lee, Glades

We are currently looking to add an experienced Roadway Construction Inspector to our Florida CEI team for District One. Please no C2C or third-party submittals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing assignments in assisting Senior Inspector in the performance of their duties
  • Receive general supervision from the Senior Inspector who reviews work while in progress
  • Provide inspection services for earthwork, asphalt, concrete, structures, erosion, traffic and other construction items as dictated by the project, complete reports and forms as necessary and perform other duties as directed by management and/or the client.
  • Review application materials including asphalt, concrete and earthwork for acceptable materials and mix
  • Ensure that materials meet project specifications
  • Inspect roadway and structures for conformance to plans and specifications
  • Evaluate structural materials, placement of culverts and structural operations such as foundation excavation
  • Monitor placement of pilings, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete and backfill
  • Inspect and monitor traffic control and erosion control devices
  • Perform accurate calculations and computations
  • Complete advanced QC testing and document results
  • Review contractor submittals for conformance to project documents and specifications
  • Document and immediately report any non-compliance actions and safety violations to your immediate supervisor

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Associates or BS Civil Engineering desired
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in roadway construction inspection
  • CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level I
  • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
  • CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
  • CTQP Final Estimates Level I
  • FDOT Intermediate MOT Certification
  • Nuclear Radiation Safety Certification
  • Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Training and Certification Program for Inspectors and Contractors
  • US Citizen or Green Card holder
  • Must pass background check and drug test
  • Must complete the Critical Structures Construction Issues, Self-Study Course, and submit the mandatory Certification of Course Completion form (for structures projects)
  • Must have good driving record and possess active DMV license
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Above average math and problem-solving skills are required

Physical Demands

  • This position requires minimal lifting of up to 40 pounds on an infrequent basis
  • Hand and eye coordination adequate for computer data entry, operate surveying equipment, calculator and concrete testing equipment
  • Ability to travel and tour work sites under adverse environmental conditions not limited to loud noise levels, high dust and dirt, and extreme temperature
  • Ability visual examine construction materials and finished structures

Expected Hours of Work

  • This position will be a full-time position
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday with some weekend work as needed
