We are seeking an Associate Scientist in Analytical Chemistry to join our R&D Solution Center at Columbia, MD. You will work in close collaboration with our biotech team to support strain improvement, fermentation, and downstream process, transferring data into insight to provide analytical solutions for innovation projects.

You’ll be responsible to:

  • Analyze fermentation samples, in-process purification samples and finished products for required tests by various analytical and instrumental methods, like HPLC, GC, ICP-MS, UV-vis, etc
  • Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot laboratory equipment
  • Work closely with other departments and business functions to identify challenges and propose analytical solutions
  • Solve problems and generate ideas for new procedures or experiments
  • Analyze and review data to ensure accuracy prior to reporting
  • Document and present analytical results timely and accurately in line with the agreed standards and work processes
  • Contribute to digitalization and effective data management
  • Be actively involved in the global Analytical science community, such as presenting results, sharing ideas, supporting with troubleshooting
  • Display and promote positive safety behaviours at all times, keeping the workplace clean and tidy, following all DSM Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) rules

What we like to see in your experience:

  • M.S. in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Food Science or related field, or B.S. with 3+ years of relevant experien
  • Hands-on experience in operating and maintaining analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, NMR, FTIR, ICP-MS, UV-vis. spectrophotometry, etc.
  • Able to follow SOP to analyze samples using different assays.
  • Skilled in applying problem solving and critical thinking skills to identify solutions to analytical challenges
  • Able to process, interpret and present scientific results
  • Knowledge of statistical data analysis and programming languages like R and Python is plus
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Work effectively both independently and within a team environment, with can-do attitude
  • Able to manage multiple projects/work packages
  • Enhanced computer skills, including MS Office Suite
