Cloud Camp Mule Skinner ($18 per hour) – The Broadmoor Hotel – Colorado Springs, CO

Summary: Provide safe, fun, and efficient mule transportation to/from Cloud Camp while providing appropriate care and training to the mules.

Essential duties and responsibilities to include the following: Other duties may be assigned:

  • Provide mule transportation service to Cloud Camp for guests that is commensurate with the Broadmoor’s 5 star, 5 diamond rating
  • Smile and welcome guests with a positive attitude that supports the philosophy of Cloud Camp
  • Ensure that mules receive appropriate feeding, general and medical care and are kept in a healthy condition
  • Answer all guest questions and make riders feel safe and welcome.
  • Provide interesting facts and information to riders about the history of mules, Cloud Camp, and The Broadmoor
  • Work with the mules to train them to provide safe, reliable transportation
  • Feed/Water mules, Clean mule stalls on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Maintain a journal with information on each of the mules to include strengths, weaknesses, and idiosyncrasies
  • Maintain a journal for Mule Skinner staff regarding daily trips to/from Cloud Camp
  • Ensure appropriate follow through on guest requests
  • Required to drive a golf cart or mule
  • Maintain inventory and ensure security for all inventory related to the Mule Skinner service
  • Report all necessary repairs and safety issues in a timely manner
  • Assist other positions as needed to ensure smooth operations of Cloud Camp.
  • All other duties as assigned for the Cloud Camp operation.

Education / Experience:

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); and at least two years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:

Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, sort correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present and explain information to individuals or groups of guests and/or coworkers.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to handle situations involving several concrete variables in standardized scenarios.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the environment is moderate.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job the employee will be at an altitude of greater than 9,000 feet which the employee will have to acclimate to daily. The employee will regularly have to carry heavy items and saddle mules. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time and walk; use hands to handle, grip, point, feel and reach; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is regularly required to lift up to 25 and/or 50 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift/pull/push up to 100 pounds. The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.
