Assistant Director of Institutional Research – University of Portland – Portland, OR

Education and Experience

Required: Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in a relevant field (e.g. statistics, social sciences, data analytics, computer science, etc.).

Required: Experience conducting research and statistical analysis in higher education or a related sector (e.g. government, K-12 education, etc.).

Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience.

Certifications and Licenses

Preferred: None.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Exceptional analytical, critical, and conceptual thinking skills to develop processes and measurement tools for documenting data across a variety of complex situations.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, especially in translating data for various audiences, including faculty and other academic collaborators.

Ability to conduct research using a wide variety of research methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative (e.g. surveys, interviews, focus groups, data analysis, etc.).

Competence with and commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment that values diverse experiences and perspectives; ability to effectively collaborate with diverse students, faculty, and staff.

Project management skills and the ability to consistently handle and follow through with multiple concurrent tasks and deadlines.

Willingness and ability to expand technical skillset as needed.

Ability to work effectively independently and as a collaborator with diverse stakeholders in a team setting to accomplish organizational goals.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and effectively handle highly sensitive and personal information with sound judgment, tact, and discretion.

Ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies, and processes.

Effective ability to use and learn computers, technology, software, and applications at level of sophistication required for the duties of the position, including, without limitation, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Banner, the internet, and computerized maintenance management systems.*
