Senior Back End Engineer – App Experience – Reverb – Chicago, IL

Company Description

Reverb is the largest online marketplace dedicated to buying and selling new, used, and vintage musical instruments. Since launching in 2013, Reverb has grown into a vibrant community of buyers and sellers all over the world. By focusing on inspiring content, price transparency, musician-focused eCommerce tools, a music-savvy customer service team, and more, Reverb has created an online destination where the global music community can connect over the perfect piece of music gear.

Our core belief is that music makes the world a better place. Through Reverb Gives, a portion of every sale provides youth music education programs across the world with instruments they need to make music.

Job Description

The App Experience team builds Reverb’s native mobile experience top-to-bottom, from the databases to a user’s phone. We are an inclusive team of designers, backend, and native mobile engineers. We always want to understand the impact and value of our work, which we do through extensive experimentation and user feedback. As a senior engineer, you would be one of the founding members of a growing backend squad.

As a backend engineer on the AppX team, you’d be responsible for collaborating with PMs, designers, and mobile native devs to define and deliver the backbone of features and systems. We tackle problems a variety of ways depending on the user problem and impact. Solutions could range from developing new services/systems to be consumed by the apps and the web via GraphQL to a webpage embedded in the native apps.

At Reverb, we’re more than engineers; we’re product owners who interact with internal partners, break down large problems, and follow up on the performance of our features to know how they impact the business directly.

Qualifications

We ask that candidates express interest in Reverb’s mission, prepare to work on a collaborative team, and adopt a growth mentality. We also ask that you have at least 5 years of web development experience in MVC and relational database technologies relevant to our stack, outside of learning environments. As a senior member of the team, we are also looking for candidates that have a proven track record to lead others and know how to ship in a highly agile environment.

  • Ruby / Rails
  • Typescript
  • Postgres/other RDBMS
  • GraphQL
  • Elastic Search
  • Ownership over team-scoped initiatives
  • Retail eCommerce and/or two-sided marketplaces
