BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SPECIALIST (CASE MANAGER/JAILS) – Arlington County, VA – Virginia

Position Information

The Department of Human Services is hiring a Case Manager to work in the Arlington County Detention Facility as part of a Mental Health treatment team. This professional position is responsible for providing ongoing case management and re-entry planning and support to clients with a serious mental illness who have been detained in the detention facility to connect and refer them to needed community services including benefits, housing, and mental health treatment services. The population served is ethnically and culturally diverse.

Responsibilities include:

  • Making assessment of clients presenting symptoms to identify service needs;
  • Collaborating with mental health professionals to develop treatment plans, risk assessments, and crisis stabilization;
  • Utilizing the risk need responsivity tool to determine appropriate levels of interventions;
  • Linking clients to resources in the community for testing, treatment, or other benefits;
  • Preparing quarterly statistically reports which summarize assessments, diagnosis, and services provided to support the on-going grant funding; and
  • Documenting treatment plans and progress to ensure compliance with clinical, funding, and program licensing regulations and standards.

Selection Criteria

Minimums:

  • Completion of the requirements for a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or other directly related clinical discipline;
  • Two years of post-bachelor’s degree experience providing behavioral health services in the legal or court systems to adults with a serious mental illness or co-occurring disorder; and
  • Meets the criteria of and register with the State as a Qualified Mental Health Professional-(QMHP-A) within 60 days of hire (ref: https://www.dhp.virginia.gov/counseling/docs/ QMHP_FAQs.pdf (Download PDF reader)).


Substitution
: A Master’s degree may substitute for the experience requirement.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a clinical discipline such as Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or other directly related clinical discipline; and/or
  • Previous case management experience working with community partners and resources; and previous experience in tracking grant statistics and report writing

Special Requirements

The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator’s license from the applicant’s place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. If the applicant possesses or acquires a license, the applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant’s official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant’s driving record.

A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Must complete pre-hire federal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry check.

An assessment of oral Spanish proficiency will be required before a candidate can be appointed to a bilingual position. The incumbent in the position(s) will receive the language pay premium on all hours worked and on paid leave hours.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some flexibility to work required evenings depending upon client needs/caseload.
