WSF has more than 1,800 employees throughout the Puget Sound region on vessels, in terminals, at the Eagle Harbor Maintenance Facility and at the headquarters facility in Seattle.

The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking two Transportation Engineers to perform a variety of inspections of various marine structures, buildings, pavement, and electrical and/or mechanical systems. The position ensures compliance with contract and permit conditions, material quantity and quality, adherence to work plans, documenting labor and equipment, monitoring contractor schedules, communicating with operational staff as needed, and completing related documentation as required.

What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you/the Transportation Engineer will:

  • Perform construction inspection
  • Assess repair needs and annual inspections of existing facilities
  • Perform field surveying and data collection
  • Ensure compliance with contract and permit conditions
  • Knowledge of construction inspection and documentation procedures
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and prepare written contract documents and drawings, and ability to determine contractor compliance
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) and build positive internal and external relationships
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; is adaptable and flexible to change and changing priorities
  • Ability to maintain pile driving logs for marine structures during pile driving operations
  • Ability to inspect reinforced concrete construction, including inspections of reinforcing steel layout and form dimensions
  • Ability to operate a small boat with a motor and work from a small boat in moderate seas.



Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:

  • Certification as an Engineer-In-Training and one (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, Bridge Engineer 1 or equivalent OR
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Technician 3, Bridge Engineer 1 or equivalent OR
  • A master’s degree with major study in civil engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, traffic, transportation, or a closely related field
  • Obtain and maintain a valid driver license issued by the State of Washington
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Obtain and maintain a Washington State Boater Education Card

It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:

  • One (1) year of experience on a survey party
  • One (1) year of experience as a design team member
