Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

We are looking for a Backend Senior Software Engineer to help lead a Portland-based innovation lab. This lab is responsible for building Lithia’s its digital presence into a best-of-class automotive ecommerce retail product-suite. This person will have a ground-up impact on our technology systems/services, business, and most importantly, our customers. An ideal candidate will be innovative, adaptable, and have strong development skills allowing them to work collaboratively across teams to solve critical business challenges.

The Senior Software Engineer is a backend technology-role that reports to the Software Engineering Manager out of Portland, Oregon.

Position Overview

Area of Responsibility

• Mentor team through brown bags and other learning opportunities.

• Deliver high quality code.

• Collaborate with Product and Design leads to drive business outcomes.

• Provides input on level of effort and risks to inform project scope.

• Collaborate with other developers, engineering managers, and the Digital Innovation Group within Lithia as needed.

Qualifications

The following knowledge, skills and abilities are needed to be successful in this position:

• Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency.

• Active Listening – give full attention to the words and body language of others, take time to understand the points being made and ask questions as appropriate.

• Critical Thinking – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

• Time Management – ability to prioritize workload and manage one’s own time .

• 5+ years-experience shipping and supporting high-scale, high-performance web applications in a cloud environment.

• Excellent communication skills and a strong attention to detail.

• Expertise in HTTP, web application architecture, scalability, performance optimization, reliability, deployment, monitoring, security.

• Experience working with Java or Kotlin, Spring/Spring boot, React, Redux, Node, NoSQL, Cosmos, Docker, Azure, MongoDB, and more.
