JOB SUMMARY
Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Pharmacy and/or Pharmacist. The Pharmacy Technician-Pharmacy Intern is required to support and coordinate functions efficiently to meet customer expectations. All the criteria-based duties and standards within this document will be performed according to established policies, procedures, guidelines and regulatory requirements within the department, Hospital and respective legal authorities.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

All aspects of Inventory management for the Pharmacy Department.

Pyxis stocking and maintenance
-
Process Bar Batch and Pyxis rejects.
-
Maintains the records as required for orders filled or processed for patients.

Ordering, receiving and restocking of all drug orders
-
Responsible for drug outdate management.
-
On a monthly basis, ensures checking of all appropriate locations for outdated medications.

Ensures compliant filling of all schedule and non-scheduled medications to the respective areas.

Answers telephone and refers all questions about medication orders, drug information, poison information or other clinical matters to the pharmacist on duty.

Performs IV and Chemotherapy preparation as required and licensed for.

Order management activies for all internal and external Departments serviced by the Pharmacy Department

Weekly ordering and restocking of all non-medication pharmacy supplies

Performs all required unit dosing/prepackaging duties

Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.

Develops and maintains professional rapport with department customers and co-workers . Treat one another professionally and courteously. Engage in a teamwork approach where honesty and cooperation are an everyday occurrence. Offer positive feedback to co-workers.

Actively participates in the Quality program by assisting in identifying, documenting, monitoring, evaluating, and taking corrective action for quality improvement. Actively prepares for and participates in all regulatory inspections/surveys. Approaches work in a manner that makes quality improvement a part of every activity.

Participates in cross-training experiences and continuing education as requested

Ensures that all expenditures for job related activities are within budgetary constraints

Is responsible for the maintenance and proper operation of equipment within the department

Follows and adheres to organizational and departmental policies and procedures

Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
-
Education: High school graduate or GED. Maintain appropriate hours of ACPE continuing education annually.

Licensure: Registered Licensed Pharmacy Technician and/or Registered Pharmacy Intern with the Wyoming State Board of Pharmacy by the Wyoming State Board of Pharmacy. Registered Licensed Pharmacy Technician required to be obtained within 2 years upon initial licensure of Pharmacy Technician-in-Training by the Wyoming State Board of Pharmacy.

Certifications required: See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.

Experience: Previous Pharmacy experience preferred.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Hand/eye coordination, fine and gross motor skills, able to speak clearly, computer skills.

Interpersonal Skills: Good interpersonal skills needed to work with staff and physicians. Maintains respectful working relationships with co-workers and encourages the team approach.

Essential Physical Requirements: The work routine requires overhead reaching, manual and finger dexterity, the ability to stand, walk long periods of time and be able to push a mobile cart (35 lbs.) while making routine pharmacist rounds to the various patient floors.

Essential Mental Abilities: Able to prioritize multiple details simultaneously. Able to trouble-shoot problems. Analytical, interpretive skills. Requires higher level of short- and long-term mental faculties accompanied by long- and short-term memory.

Essential Sensory Requirements: Corrected vision, hearing to normal range, fine manual dexterity.

Exposure to Hazards: OSHA CATEGORY III. Identified job duties do not have any anticipation for contact with blood, contaminated body fluids or tissues.
