ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

INFECTION CONTROL/ PREVENTION

1. Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, coordinates, and directs infection control in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern such requirements in nursing care facilities.

2. Assesses infection control problems, collect and prepare healthcare associated infection data, present infection data and make recommendations for corrective action and/or initiates control measures (revises policies and procedures).

3. Leads and coordinates a robust team in the identification and implementation of infection prevention goals.

4. Monitors infection control practices and employee compliance in use of barriers and infection prevention measures.

5. Ensure that the facility is in compliance with current CDC, OSHA, and local regulations concerning infection control or standard/universal precautions.

6. Provide the DON with monthly outlines of the planned educational programs and monthly infection control reporting.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

7. Provides leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the in-service educational programs of this facility.

8. Plans and conducts meaningful in-service education programs according to regulatory requirements for nursing personnel and all facility staff to assure competency in existing and new skills, which also addresses areas where the facility received deficiencies following the last survey.

9. Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the DON concerning in-service training programs.

10. Coordinates the safety program in the Nursing which includes but is not limited to conducting initial and on-going instruction on body mechanics, lifting and moving techniques, use of gait belt and participate in safety committee as directed.

11. Coordinates annual TB testing for residents and employees, as well as flu and hepatitis injections. Works closely with Human Resources in maintaining accurate employee health files.

12. Coordinates and conducts onsite CPR/First Aid training for employees.

13. Directs and conducts the orientation of new employees according to regulations which includes but is not limited to philosophy and objectives of care, resident rights, safety, infection control and the policies and procedures of the facility.

14. Evaluates the direct work performance of nursing staff to ensure quality resident care and provide additional instruction and/or necessary corrective action in deficient areas.

15. Secures, develops and maintains records, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials, attendance sheets, etc., pertinent to in-service educational programs in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations as may be directed by the DON.

16. Conducts C.N.A. interviews and makes hires for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations while enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget

17. Coordinate with DON on reviewing the Nursing department policies and procedures assuring their consistency with state and federal guidelines and current best practices.
