RN (Registered Nurse) – Nursing Care Services, Inc. – Scranton, PA

JOB SUMMARY

Is responsible for the planning, implementing, and evaluation of nursing care within the objectives, standards, and policies of the organization.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Maintains the integrity of SHANTINIKETAN CARE ADULT DAY CENTER by promoting the mission and core values of the organization while performing job functions. Abides by the organization’s policies and procedures, including confidentiality standards. Follows established standards of nursing practice.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Complies with PA Code Title 6. Chapter 11. Older Adult Daily Living Centers and appropriate accreditation standards.

2. In conjunction with the Administrator/Program Manager, interprets center policy, health laws, and regulations to families.

3. Performs as a team member with other program personnel.

4. Advises clients and caregivers on the prevention of disease and defects.

5. Gives caregivers and staff guidance on problems found through observation and assessments.

6. Conducts a quarterly review of the clients’ health status, including dietary needs.

7. Communicates frequently with Administrators regarding clients’ physical and mental conditions.

8. In conjunction with the Administrator/Program Manager, provides training, education, and supervision of staff persons regarding the needs of the clients in the centers, including infection control.

9. Responsible for appropriate administration of medications and appropriate record keeping.

10. Takes an active role in the client team meetings by sharing knowledge, information, and ideas.

11. Assists staff in the area of client ADL’s, including, mealtime, bathroom and personal care, and showers. Lifting and transferring clients maybe involved.

12. Responsible for the following nursing functions:

  • Supervision of modified and therapeutic diets and supplemental feedings.
  • Supervision of observation, monitoring, and intervention for unstable medical episodes.
  • Provision of restorative and rehabilitative nursing.
  • Provision of maintenance of respiratory aids, colostomy, and ileostomy, urinary drainage devices, dressings, skincare, foot care and nail care, and routine care of incontinent clients.
  • Responds to emergencies.
  • Administration of parenteral treatments.
  • Provision of other skilled nursing care which can be safely done in the center
  • Monitors specialized services.

13. Completes nursing documentation.

14. Collects statistical data relevant to outcome measures.

15. If qualified, may function in the absence of the Administrator as the designee.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be either an RN or LPN, currently licensed in this Commonwealth.

2. Shall have experience working with aging adults and adults with functional impairments.

3. Personal characteristics: Personality and appearance for the level of responsibility indicated.

4. Valid state motor vehicle license.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

1. Flexibility in days and hours available for scheduled work, including evenings and weekends.

2. Basic nursing knowledge.

3. Broad knowledge of medications.

4. Knowledge of the elderly and their medical needs.

5. Ability to work under minimal supervision.

6. Ability to work well with others in the medical profession.

7. Ability to maintain accurate and legible records.

8. Ability to exercise independent judgment and to make quick decisions.

9. Ability to deal with emergencies quickly and efficiently.

10. Ability to work with caregivers courteously and diplomatically.

11. Ability and interest in keeping abreast of new developments and research in the adult daycare service field and a willingness to participate in professional activities.

12. Ability to follow strict rules of confidentiality regarding clients, caregivers, or those seeking services.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $19.00 – $28.00 per hour
