The Scoop:

The PBM business is a data-intensive business with much of MedImpact’s value to its clients deriving from the careful organization, processing and sharing of data. The IT Principal Engineer, Enterprise Architect plays a key, visible role within MedImpact IT as well as Business organizations. Operating with a clear understanding of the current-state of the MedImpact Architecture, the IT Principal Engineer, defines, refines, promotes and drives-adoption of the MedImpact future-state architecture. This role also has primary responsibility for establishing through collaboration, formally defining and ensuring adherence to software design and development standards in all software development efforts within MedImpact.

As an IT Principal Engineer the following overarching duties and responsibilities apply:

  • Provides individual contribution as well as technical leadership in the following areas:
    • Identifying & translating ambiguous, unstated and understated business needs into holistic technical solutions
    • Researches, identifies, plans, evangelizes and socializes appropriate new technologies and technical solutions with IT as well as with business stakeholders
    • High-level as well as detailed design and specification of technical solutions
    • Represents MedImpact IT as a technology subject-matter expert internally and externally (with clients & partners) as necessary
  • Mentors and guides other technical personnel on technology, techniques and best-practices
  • Assists in MedImpact IT recruitment efforts with candidate-interviews
  • Identifies, documents and helps protect MedImpact intellectual property where appropriate
  • Leads “matrixed” teams when necessary without formal supervisory authority within the context of a specific situation or a project. No permanent supervisory functions required
  • Interfaces with clients to understand needs and concerns, suggests solutions and may manage sensitive customer-relationship situations with patience and maturity
  • Suggests refinements to current or institutes new IT policies and procedures

As the Enterprise Architect the following duties and responsibilities apply:

  • Provides technical leadership in analyzing needs and translating them into robust, operationally sustainable and extensible technical solutions
  • Identifies through research and prior experience, optimal methods and approaches to translating business needs into software solutions
  • Makes recommendations for technical solutions by addressing application, data and technology architectures
  • Identifies optimal methods and approaches for translating business needs inot software solutions
  • Guides cross-functional teams including Business Analysts, Software Engineers and Quality Assurance Engineers in implementing technical solutions in line with MedImpact architecture standards and best practices
  • Helps software development teams implement industry-appropriate and regulation-compliant software solutions
  • Facilitates and participates in business requirements analysis
  • Participates and provides technical know-how on new product development or major product enhancements
  • Translates business needs into solution architectures within the Application, Data & Technology paradigms
  • Guides and reviews software, database, and systems designs
  • Creates, maintains and promotes architecture policies, procedures and standards
  • Identifies, evaluates, and guides implementation of appropriate vendor-technologies
  • Assists with resolution of business-critical issues within the operational environment as needed

Education and/or Experience

For consideration candidates will need a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or equivalent technical discipline; or equivalent combination of education and job related experience. This individual will need at least twelve (12) plus years experience in an Enterprise Architect position building and deploying enterprise-class applications, along with prior experience in a technical leadership role. Candidate should also have experience and/or exposure to PBM, managed health care or pharmaceutical industries.

Computer Skills

Expert level knowledge and experience is required in the following:

  • Java, J2EE, JSF, SPRING, Struts, XML, Hibernate and related technologies
  • ORACLE RDBMS tools and technologies (Forms, PL-SQL, UNIX Scripting); UNIX and ORACLE RDBMS platforms
  • Architecture and design skills including background in Web Applications, SOA, Object-oriented Analysis and Design
  • Translation/re-engineering 2-tier legacy applications into re-usable, distributed solutions is valuable
  • Application architecture design and creation
  • Programming experience in one or more language

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Design of complex software solutions including, architecture, design, data-modeling and systems engineering
  • Strong background in programming, testing and deployment of software systems
  • Analytical-thinking, critical-reasoning, and problem-solving skills as applied to complex business-technology subject areas
  • Written, verbal and presentation skills to educate, inform and facilitate decision-making at management level
  • Planning and organization skills to conceive and execute small projects and work independently
  • Initiate and influence change in a “matrixed” environment with limited formal authority
  • Technical trouble-shooting and root-cause analysis skills in service-disruption scenarios
  • Experience in all phases of software development lifecycle
  • Proficiency in sizing, capacity-planning, and performance-tuning software applications
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving, solution analysis & visualization
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written, verbal and presentation) facilitation, collaboration and influencing skills
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office products such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word to communicate complex technical topics to a non-technical audience

Travel – This position may require domestic travel as well as attendance at various local conferences and meetings.
