Faculty – Data Science Outcomes Research – WMU Homer Stryker, M.D. School of Medicine – Kalamazoo, MI

Overview:

The Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics of the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month faculty position specializing in Data Science and Outcomes Research. Applications for positions at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor will be considered.

Responsibilities:

Research experience relevant to database and/or disease registry development, data mining of large healthcare databases, electronic medical records, personalized medicine, natural language processing and text mining, patient-reported outcomes, health care quality, comparative effectiveness, or population/community health will be considered. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate in the development of the data science and outcomes research infrastructure at the medical school, develop a funded research program, and contribute to the educational mission of the organization. Opportunities exist to engage with faculty in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, the Center for Clinical Research, and the Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Qualifications:

Candidates with a PhD in statistics, computer or data science, health services research, outcomes research, or related fields are welcome.

As one of the newer US medical schools, WMed is an exciting environment to pursue an academic career. The 350,000 square foot educational building on the W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo underwent a $78 million renovation and expansion project including two laboratory research floors and a state-of-the-art Simulation Center that is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. The Innovation Center on the Parkview Campus is a life science, technology, and engineering incubator serving the earliest startups to maturing companies with laboratory, office and conference space, access to core scientific equipment and expertise, and a wide range of support services.
