Psychologist – Therapeutic Diversion Unit – State of North Carolina – Anson County, NC

This position is located at Anson Correctional Institution in Polkton which houses approximately 1000 Closed and Medium Custody Inmates. Work in this class involves responsibility for providing a full range of psychological and intervention services for adults and/or for coordinating or supervising small programs or sub-units or for leading paraprofessionals (e.g. behavioral programming specialists). Employee provides counseling, psychotherapy, consultation, and/or behavior management to individuals/groups in order to treat or address psychological adjustment and/or behavioral issues. Employee develops, administers, interprets, evaluates, and assesses individuals’ tests of mental abilities, aptitudes, and/or personality characteristics and motivations. Employee observes individuals and groups in an effort to assess, evaluate, and predict behaviors. Employee may provide information to health care professionals and to court officials in order to assist in legal decision-making. Employee diagnoses, treats, and manages mental and/or psychological disorders or disabilities, substance abuse, and disorders of habit or conduct. Employee consults with psychologists, physicians, and other professionals regarding available treatment options.

Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of psychological principles, theories, and procedures
  • Documented knowledge in the use and interpretation of techniques used in developmental psychological and/or educational assessment
  • Demonstrated knowledge in conducting and applying appropriate therapy (counseling, psychotherapy, or behavioral) to treat mental and/or emotional and/or intellectual disabilities, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting diagnostic findings and preparing comprehensive reports

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Eligibility for licensure in North Carolina under the provisions of the NC Psychology Practice Act (G.S. 90-270).
