Merck Oncology is a rapidly growing business within Merck Global Human Health, dedicated to developing breakthrough biomedical innovations to help extend and improve the lives of people with cancer worldwide. The Senior Specialist roles are intended to develop future commercial leaders in Merck Oncology.

Merck Oncology is looking to hire a Senior Specialist, Market Research and Analytics, to support KEYTRUDA initiatives. The position will plan, manage and execute a US and Global Market Research and Analytics plan for KEYTRUDA.

  • With studies in more than 30 tumor types, Merck Oncology needs to ensure that KEYTRUDA is successful across a wide-range of markets.
  • This person will be responsible for working on a number of different tumors for Keytruda.
  • This position will also provide strategic input to the extended team by proactively identifying global issues, answering key business questions, and applying all available resources to produce actionable global solutions and recommendations.
  • Must have a particular interest in learning the business of Oncology and the science behind immune-oncology.
  • Person must be willing to work on a dynamic business which will include multiple tumor launches in the next 2 years.
  • Requires a strong desire to learn and master primary and secondary market research methodologies,
  • Experience in Marketing Services, Sales or Oncology is a plus.
  • This individual is expected to be a strong team player, to interact with multiple internal and external groups, to influence decision-making, and to pro-actively identify business opportunities for both in-line brands and KEYTRUDA, while working closely with the Team Leader.

Key responsibilities includes and are not limited to the following:

  • Works with associate-director to develop and oversee execution of the global market research plan and timeline, for both the US and Global teams.
  • Works with associate director to develop and implement all aspects of primary and secondary analytics including leadership in framing critical business questions, identification of information needs, development of research/analysis plans and management of the research process to deliver an objective understanding of key customers, competitors, products and current/future market developments.
  • Implements research studies & monitors budget; briefs agencies to deliver what is required – understands vendor capabilities, quality requirements, and recommends innovative options.
  • Articulates the rationale, hypotheses, and methodology of research approaches to both the manager and the franchise/client team proactively and ensures the business objectives are met and communicated in an effective way.
  • Explores alternative/creative ways of meeting an information need, considering new techniques alongside more traditional approaches to more quickly and efficiently address business requests.
  • Completes complex analyses using available secondary data, syndicated reports and databases and integrates findings into primary market research efforts to tell and evolve the “story”.
  • Proactively communicates and facilitates discussion with Marketing/Commercial Teams to ensure that insights are considered in decision-making and planning; integrates a variety of sources/studies to present strategic options to the extended team; provides consultative guidance to Marketing/Commercial Team(s).
  • Leads implementation of all administrative aspects of research studies using available resources.
  • Collaborates proactively with cross-functional business partners including marketing communications, market access colleagues, and the advertising agency to ensure optimal integration for the launch.
  • Assists with analysis to inform the strategic assumptions that are built into brand forecasts.
  • Independently manages competing priorities and demands from within a product team/franchise applying best practices and innovative techniques maximize value and actionable output.
  • Takes full ownership of understanding the business challenge/information needs, considers alternatives, proposes appropriate method/approach, applies best practices, and proactively considers and/or develops new techniques and innovations to meet objectives.
  • Works on and leads adhoc franchise wide initiatives and/or projects as needed.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Required: BA/BS
  • Preferred: MA/MS/MBA

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Marketing Services or Oncology experience
  • 20% Travel

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Market research schooling or hands-on experience a plus
