Operations Manager

Overview

The Operations Manager (Fixed Route) reports directly to the General Manager in managing daily operations to include but not limited to; route supervision, staff and operator supervision, effective communication with internal and external customers and coaching employees for optimal performance, managing the entire operation in the absence of the General Manager, complying with all Company policies and managing the operation within the budgetary plan for the location.

This is for proposed business all offers are contingent upon Transdev’s award of the contract.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily activities of all operators and coordinates the activities of supervisors and dispatch personnel
  • Oversees scheduling of operators; monitors operations and coordinates delivery of service with superiors
  • Works closely with the maintenance department to ensure that all operation requirements are met
  • Track, compile and analyze performance; handle interdepartmental issues; resolve employee issues and grievances; improve processes and route scheduling
  • Makes hiring decisions for authorized roles; evaluates the work performance of staff; ensures the timely and efficient completion of all assigned tasks
  • Assists in accident/incident investigation, including any needed on-site assistance and support to safety and training personnel
  • Coordinates with the safety and training department to ensure all safety goals and directives are met
  • Develops Operations department budget
  • May operate a vehicle in revenue service, if necessary
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information

Qualifications

Education, Licensing, and Certifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required.

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge Required:

  • 5-7 years operations experience in a transit environment.
  • 5-7 year’s previous supervisory/management experience in Transit.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high pressure environment.
  • Experience dealing with the Union and working in the transportation industry a must.
  • Must be able to demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy and possesses good judgment and discretion.
  • Must possess ability to lead and motivate employees.
  • Experience dealing with federal, state, and local agencies (i.e., DOT, FTA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Proven adult training skills and ability to make presentations a must.
  • Detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills.
  • Proven customer service and interpersonal skills a must.
  • General knowledge of Windows-based computer operating system and Microsoft office package.
  • Must be able to work as a member of the team.
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external customer on all levels and be able to work well with diverse groups.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours or shifts.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Must be able to maintain a DOT medical card
  • Must submit to drug testing and a criminal background check

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to sit. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch or crawl; and smell. Occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Up to 30% of the workday is spent outdoors monitoring service on routes, transit facilities, and company locations.
  • Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold and in a damp environment with moderate noise.
  • Remaining work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space equipped with a telephone and computer; time is spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer.
