Responsibilities

Aerospace Cloud Platforms & Architectures Department (CPAD) is looking for a mid-level Section Manager to lead and grow a team of engineers who design, implement and deploy cloud solutions and architectures that will shape our nation’s space enterprise across ground and space. We support a variety of customers including the Space Missile Center (SMC), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and other civil customers (e.g. NASA) that are considering designing their next generation ground and satellites systems. The section manager will provide technical management and leadership in the development of cloud technologies capabilities to help our customers migrate from legacy stove-piped systems to highly resilient, distributed systems utilizing the latest cloud and virtualization technologies.

Key Functions

  • Work with department director and other managers as needed in all aspects of developing and managing the organization.
  • Recruit, hire, mentor, and lead staff to create cutting edge prototypes that are multicloud, hybrid cloud, resilient, and utilize private/public cloud infrastructure.
  • Interface with the program office customers in task scoping, budget and project management.
  • Identify new areas of research and lead project teams through the proposal, design and execution phases.
  • Ensure the technical quality of deliverables (reports, software, services, etc.) to customers.
  • Help manage and maintain the Cloud Technologies Lab and work with engineers to identify/acquire software and hardware as needed.
  • While this is a management position, the selected candidate is expected to get involved on a diverse set of technical projects. It is very important to be hands-on, willing to learn and be comfortable working in a multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related field(s) from a recognized institution
  • Seven or more years of relevant professional experience
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Proficient with multiple programming languages and 3 or more years of hands-on software development experience
  • Experience maintaining a production Information Technology (IT) infrastructure/environment on premise and/or in cloud
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts including: Software Defined Networks (SDN), TCP/IP, IP Subnetting, Network Security Zones and Virtual Private Clouds
  • Strong understanding of software engineering concepts and platform deployment technologies
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems
  • 3 or more years of combined experience in any of the following areas: container orchestration, consumer cloud providers (e.g., AWS, Microsoft Azure, GCP), cloud system architecture/design, server-less computing
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete tasks, learn new technical approaches, mentor junior staff, lead technical efforts, and interact effectively with a broad range of organizations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Presentation skills to provide updates to management to ensure project development remains aligned with management/customer vision
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to work in and with interdisciplinary teams
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational needs technically and socially
  • Must be detail-oriented and organized

Preferred:

  • Current TS/SCI level clearance
  • Advanced degrees (Master or PhD) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Experience with Agile methodology and team collaboration tools
  • Experience working with DoD space systems and ground networks
  • Experience with NoSQL databases
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and/or other orchestration platforms
  • Experience with DevOps tools (ELK, Jenkins, Ansible, Artifactory, etc.)
