Caritas House is currently seeking a Elder Assistant – CMT/CNA who will assist residents who are physically and/or socially impaired and need 24 hour oversight, with activities of daily living and medication assistance/administration, fostering at all times residents’ independence and freedom of choice.

Caritas House is a community for seniors that provides additional services that help our residents remain independent and safe. Our dining program provides our residents with three meals a day and access to healthy snack options. The Dietary Assistant helps prepare the dining areas for meals and ensures the residents’ needs are being met during meal times. The position offers opportunities to learn food safety and food preparation techniques. :

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides assistance with activities of daily living, including: dressing/undressing, bathing, toileting, personal hygiene,
    mobility devices, and care of activities of daily living (ADL) devices such as eyeglasses, contact lenses and hearing aids.
    Instrumental Activities of Daily Living
  • Provides assistance with instrumental activities of daily living including but not limited to: telephone, housekeeping
    tasks such as vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning bathroom, bed making, and bed changes, laundry, escort and/or
    coordinate internal transportation needs and mail delivery and residents’ personal correspondence.
    Medication Assistance/Administration
  • Assists residents with self-administration and/or administers medications, including monitoring of medication supplies
    and documentation.
  • Documents clearly and accurately on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) after a medication is taken/given,
    refused, held, discontinued, changed, disposed of, returned, following the residence policy.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma/ G.E.D.
  • Nursing Assistant Certification by the Maryland Board of Nursing. Requires Certification as Medication Technician. Six months – one year of experience is preferred.
  • Must obtain First Aid certification and all other certifications required by licensing including food handling within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must have the ability to read and write/print legibly, follow oral and written directions, and maintain confidentiality required.
  • Must be customer service oriented, and have the ability and willingness to work effectively with a culturally diverse frail, elderly population; and work flexible hours as needed to meet resident care needs.
