Public Health Nurse

DEPARTMENT: Community Health

HOURS WORKED: Mon-Fri (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.), some flexibility required

STARTING SALARY: Grade 14, Salary dependent upon experience

PRIMARY DUTIES
Conducts public health nursing duties including communicable disease investigations and surveillance, clinic services such as child and adult immunizations, and disease counseling and testing. Participates in surveillance and reporting, refugee health and child lead poisoning prevention, and case management. Conducts community education and outreach activities on a variety of health topics. Works with local and state medical providers and public health professionals on various public health projects including immunizations, sexually transmitted diseases, lead, blood pressure screening, emergency preparedness/emergency shelters, public health accreditation, and tuberculosis.

QUALIFICATIONS
Entry level; Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; must be licensed as a professional nurse in the State of New Hampshire and maintain current CPR Certification; proficient in skills specific to public health nursing, such as phlebotomy, capillary blood testing and communicable disease investigations, counseling and testing; computer literacy a must, and bilingual in Spanish/Portuguese strongly preferred; specific training dealing with diseases such as HIV, STD, and Hepatitis preferred but not required as on-the-job training will be provided; must possess a valid driver’s license; while primarily a 8-5 position, some flexibility in scheduling is required to work evening clinics and occasional weekend health events.
