School Nurse 2022-2023 School Year (Part-Time Position) – The Museum School – Decatur, GA

The Museum School of Avondale Estates seeks a qualified and dedicated part-time school nurse. Under direct supervision, the school nurse will provide appropriate health/medical services to students in an effort to minimize absences due to illness and create a climate of health and well being at The Museum School.

Beginning at the neighborhood level, students develop a strong sense of community, independence, responsibility, and respect for the impact of their decisions and actions on others. These skills will inspire them with the confidence to identify and manage problems at the local and global level.

Responsibilities

  • Providing medical assistance to all students, as needed, during the school day and reporting outcomes and recommendations to staff and parents
  • Participating in relevant trainings, as applicable, based on individual student health needs
  • Performing student health procedures and assisting students with administration of medications
  • Assuming the responsibility for selection and referral of students in need of medical and dental care
  • Presenting professional learning health topics to staff, as needed
  • Conducting and/or coordinating school health programs, including screenings, assessment of immunization status, and testing for hearing and vision as appropriate
  • Reporting to parents, school personnel, physicians, and other health agencies on school health issues; and organizing and coordinating school health fair and other health related programs to benefit students, staff, and the community at large.
  • Acting on working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services, normal and abnormal child development, and educational principles and approaches pertinent to children with various intellectual and learning disabilities, special needs preschool children, and principles of nursing.
  • Communicating effectively with children and adults
  • Organizing clinic records and assisting with school-wide record-keeping and data entry

Requirements:

  • Minimum of LPN training and certification, RN Preferred
  • Minimum of one (1) year practical nursing or closely related experience is required.
  • Experience in pediatric nursing is preferred.
