Providence is calling a Student Nursing Assistant (0.9 FTE, Variable shift) to work in Nursing Education at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA.

The Student Nursing Assistant is a student currently enrolled in, or recently completed but awaiting certification, from an approved nursing assistant program. Functions under the direct supervision of the Manager, Program Supervisor or designee and within the scope of practice that the Manager, Supervisor or designee has determined is appropriate based upon the skills of the Student Nursing Assistant. Upon completion of a nursing assistant program and prior to licensure, or while enrolled in a nursing assistant program, the Student Patient Attendant is responsible for performing a variety of tasks to ensure that the assigned patient(s) remains safe. This may include close, continuous observation to maintain patient safety, comfort, and a safe patient care environment. Basic patient care tasks may be delegated by the Registered Nurse, Nurse Manger and or Delegate. The Student Patient Attendant will document all patient observation and care activities. Also performs non-direct patient care duties as assigned.

Successful completion of an approved nursing assistant program and the national Nurse Aid Assessment Program certification test in conjunction with remaining an employee in good standing, will qualify for entry into a regular classification as a NAC.

The Student Nursing Assistant must meet all academic progress standards and remain in good standing.

In this position you will:

  • Assist professional nursing staff with direct observation of patients and by performing basic non-technical tasks under direction and supervision.
  • Provide secondary assistance with nursing staff for patient bed mobility and patient transfers.
  • Adhere to department procedures and standards.
  • Prepares room and bed for receiving patient, ensuring a clean and safe environment. Continue to observe patient’s environment to ensure safety and comfort.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff demonstrating a positive and caring attitude; demonstrate sensitivity to patient’s emotional, social and mental health needs.
  • Recognize and reports change in the patient and the environment following department procedures and standards. Immediately alert nursing personnel to emergency situations.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Enrolled in, or admitted to, a nursing assistant program that qualifies candidate to be eligible for the National Nurse Aid Assessment
  • Must be at least 18 years of age upon hire
