Surgical Scheduler – Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region – Albany, NY

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Follow all current and future policies and procedures of the department.
  • Maintain surgical schedule for doctor(s) and communicate necessary changes.
  • Consistently schedule surgery days to the mutual satisfaction of the patient, surgeon and facility staff.
  • Coordinate all pre-operative/post-operative visits with patient.
  • Contact appropriate facility for scheduling of surgical procedures.
  • Maintain and efficiently complete all necessary surgical paperwork.
  • Acquire general knowledge of pre-operative testing and ability to explain A-Scans, IOL Calculations, Intraocular Lens Types, IOL Master, Keratometry, Endothelial Cell Counts and any surgical procedure related tests.
  • Acquire general knowledge of insurance requirements; call for necessary pre-authorizations.
  • Communicate to patients in a manner that instills understanding and confidence about their upcoming procedure.
  • Ability to travel between offices and/or to ambulatory surgery center as needed by doctor or practice.
  • Copying, filing and scanning as necessary.
  • Participate in duties inter-departmentally as deemed necessary, by a member of management and/or doctor(s).
  • Provide assistance to other clinic personnel as needed.
  • Document the “notes” section of the patient account regarding any pertinent information.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED. Position requires excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to interface with staff members and other facilities. Must be willing to travel between offices. Must be highly organized and detail oriented. Ability to accept change and be a part of a changing environment to enable success is a must.
