Job Description
Scope of Position: The position is expected to function on the assigned shift in the Clinics, Operating Rooms, inpatient care areas in The Ohio State University Medical Center, the cardiac surgery patient care units, the outpatient clinics, and other patient care areas as needed. The position involves the care of the cardiac surgery patient both pre- and post-operatively as well as first/second assisting in the operating rooms. Position Summary: This position is responsible for surgical assisting during cardiac surgical procedures, first assisting during robotic cardiac operations, performing histories and physicals, making pre and post operative rounds, post operative removal of catheters and tubes from patients, assisting in the management of patients in the outpatient clinics, assisting in the training of students and staff, and competing documentation of services, all under the supervision of a cardio-thoracic surgeon.

Minimum Education Required
Master’s Level Degree

Required Qualifications
Current license and certificate of authority to practice as a CNP in the State of Ohio. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from a nationally recognized certifying body. Eligible to Prescribe in the State of Ohio. Previous surgical nursing experience preferred.

OR

Graduation from an accredited physician assistant program or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 3 years experience preferred. Masters prepared. National Certification Commission for Physician Assistant (NCCPA) certification. Eligibility for State of Ohio licensure as a physician assistant. Ability to prescribe in the State of Ohio.
