Medication Technician/CNA – Part-Time – Safe Haven Youth Ranch – Hempstead, TX

We are searching for a Medication Technician/Certified Nursing Assistant with the flexibility and mobility to provide a high quality of medication management services to all youth in care.

Under the direction of the Healthcare Director, the Medication Technician/Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for maintaining a safe and health home environment, including administer and documenting youth prescribed medication, recognizing side effects, accurately record youth reactions and provide support to nurses and healthcare professionals.

This is a visiting position twice daily from 7am-10am and return from 4pm-7pm. Work Scheduled: Sunday – Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday

Program Description

Safe Haven Youth Ranch is a 32 bed trauma-focused residential program that offers a unique approach to achieving healing and recovery. The program combines the use of evidence-based trauma treatment interventions, 4-H youth development programing and individualized behavior skills training as a treatment alternative to youth who have experienced severe traumatic childhood life events of extreme abuse and neglect. These experiences are often frequently exacerbated by the youth’s involvement in the foster care systems.

Educational and Professional Qualifications

Must be at least 21 year of age, physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform assigned tasks; and
Minimum requirements: High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 1 years’ experience working in a residential setting.

Preferred Candidate

  • Certified Nurse’s Aide certification preferred
  • CPR Certification preferred
  • First Aid Certification preferred
  • Previous experience administering medication with knowledge of psychotropic medication preferred

Medication Technician Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews service plan to learn about youth in care
  • Maintains confidentiality of all youth information including youth medication
  • Assists/observes medications and treatments for each youth using the medication observation record
  • Documents and initials form as medications are given including appropriate documentation for refusal or med error
  • Reports all youth concerns made while assisting youth with the medication to the Healthcare Director (Nurse)
  • Restocks medication box after all medication packets are completely empty
  • Assists in checking medication and MAR for accuracy regardless of packaging system
  • Counts all medications with the Residential Shift Supervisor upon each visit
  • Maintains and cleans the Medication Room, med cabinet for neatness cleanliness, availability of medications and expired medications
  • Follows re-fill process for medications per Healthcare Director’s instructions
  • Participates in weekly review meetings on Mondays from 10am-12pm
  • Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, weight, pulse and respiration rates
  • Reports occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, sharp sticks and hazardous chemicals immediately
  • Other duties as assigned by the Healthcare Director.
