Dental Sterilization Technician – Community Health Care – Tacoma, WA

Community Health Care is seeking a Dental Sterilization technician to join our team! Community Health Care is a private, non-profit organization created in 1987 in the Great Tacoma area with five medical, one urgent care and four dental clinics. Our mission is to provide the highest quality health care with compassionate and accessible service for all!

Provides sterilization of dental instruments and trays. Conducts and organizes documentation of sterility assurance testing to include biological indicators and Bowie Dicks tests. Performs daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of all autoclaves.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

1.Decontaminate and sterilize instruments, dental supplies and equipment, assemble, wrap and sterilizes trays of instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions in decontamination and sterilization areas.

2.Monitors biological and chemical wash solutions to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.

3.Sort mismatched sets of instruments, trays, dental equipment and make them available for use.

4.Restock, label, maintain inventory, collect and distributes instruments and trays.

5.Perform environmental maintenance duties and assist in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the clinical area and in equipment storage

6.Verify that all instruments function properly and remove defective instrumentation as appropriate.

7.Perform maintenance checks and services on all models of autoclave.

8.Contact manager concerning issues with autoclave function or outcomes of biological testing.


Licensure:

1. Active Registered Dental Assistant in the State of Washington


Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent,


Experience:
Must have experience working in a medical or dental setting.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the essential functions, practices and procedures of a dental clinic
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards for cleaning and sterilization procedures within a dental clinic
  • Knowledge of dental instruments, names and usage
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards for handling contaminated instruments, set up of sterile fields, and sterile trays.
  • Skill operating a personal computer utilizing word processing, database and e-mail
  • Skill in operating various office equipment such as computer, copier, facsimile machine, and telephone system
  • Skill in accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to set up a variety of sterile trays based on provider preference and procedure
  • Ability to work independently without immediate supervision
  • Ability to read and write legibly
  • Ability to solve practical problems
  • Ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to be an effective team member
  • Cultural awareness, sensitivity, and competency, including the ability to successfully work with, and relate to, individuals from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate within a clinical setting.
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent Customer Service Skills


Preferred:

1. One year experience in community health care and ambulatory care experience.

2. Bilingual capacity
