Home Based Paraprofessional – Gersh Academy – Southampton, NY

This position provides organization and implementation of instructional programming to meet the needs of special education students eligible for medical homebound and home-based.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

· Implement instructional activities provided by Teacher, and modifications/accommodations included in the student’s Lesson Plan.

· Provide effective instruction that is clear, compelling, and engaging.

· Communicate with Teachers daily to secure assignments and any specific information needed to provide adequate instruction.

· Ensure successful electronic submission of assignments.

· Provide specific information to Teacher in order to develop appropriate plans for instruction

· Serve as a liaison between school and home for delivery of instructional services.

· Collaborate with classroom teacher, intervention specialist, and BCBAs to understand and implement the student’s behavior intervention plan with fidelity.

· Provide consultation to other members of the school based and related service team about student needs.

· Compile academic and behavior data daily both physically and digitally

· Use appropriate technology during instructional time.

· Communicate effectively, accurately, and clearly, both orally and in writing, with other professionals.

· Attend and successfully complete workshops for professional development related to job assignments, as assigned.

· Keep informed of and comply with school regulations and policies for educators.

· Compile and maintain all physical and digital reports, records, and other documents required.

· Travel to home and other assigned locations.

· Carry, maintain and care for all materials needed for instruction.

· Manage a flexible schedule.

· Follow school protocol and maintain a professional demeanor while working directly with parents.

· Discuss parental requests and guidelines with school staff before implementing

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

  • Minimum 1 year working with special needs children
  • Experience in providing homebound/home-based instruction, preferred
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation
  • General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching
  • Ability to maintain confidential files and information to compile reports based on HIPAA and ADA
  • Ability to use Distance Learning instructional equipment
  • Ability to operate standard Microsoft Office 365, TEAMS and data processing equipment
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office, word processing, data base, and spreadsheet documents, email, and web pages
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and associates

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms; walk; sit; stoop or kneel; crouch or crawl.
Additional physical requirements include the following:

  • Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds or more
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Experience with CPI or SKIP Principles and implementing if needed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 – $21.00 per hour
