LVN, Health Specialist in Early Head Start – St. Anne’s – Lynwood, CA

M-F 8am-4:30pm (some flexibility in hours)

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Health Manager, the Health Specialist performs basic clerical, intake, and office support duties primarily related to health services, and responds to more specialized questions related to eligibility for health services and records requirements. The Health Specialist complete ancillary typing, record keeping, and billing transactions associated with students receiving health services, and potentially other program assistance; perform related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Work in the community with families and pre-school age children in a Head Start program.
  • Keep accurate records.
  • LVN license required.
  • Understanding of medical terminology, testing procedures, billing processes and student eligibility standards.
  • Oversees/assess student patient needs, administers prescribed medications upon receiving authorization from physical when needed, conduct home-visits, educates families, staff and pupils on health related issues and be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Answer telephone, electronic, and in-person queries regarding varied health and related programs, services, and applications procedures.
  • Determine eligibility for services and obtains medical treatment consent forms.
  • Plot height and weight twice yearly for children not identified as overweight; and monthly for children who have been identified as being overweight.
  • Schedule tests and follows up on the status of appointments.
  • Interview families to obtain health histories and set up and maintain health files, including medical exam data.
  • Review student records for proper immunizations as per Health and Safety Codes.
  • Alert parents of needed immunizations.
  • Maintain communication until records of immunization are provided.
  • Assists in LEA Medi-Cal billing by keeping up database files and other billing records, as indicated.
  • Weigh and measure children as requested, check students for head lice.
  • Maintain records and inventories of office and health supplies.
  • Process orders, receive, verify and store supplies.
  • Assist nurse in monitoring fund records for health, medical and dental services and supplies.
  • Process invoices received for payment to doctors, dentists and pharmacies.
  • Input data for health reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Experience working in the community preferred.
  • Head Start experience is a plus.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class C CA driver’s license, automobile liability insurance, and driving record acceptable to agency’s insurance carrier.
  • Must have a reliable automobile.
  • Able to communicate effectively with both children and adults.

Pay: $20.00 – $20.01 per hour
