Correctional Officers perform security-related tasks in the institution they are assigned. They direct and monitor inmate behavior, counsel inmates, conduct personal searches and may transport inmates to/from other institutions, medical facilities, county jails, etc.
No prior training or experience is required to start this career. The department provides paid training with a 7 week academy at the beginning of employment. This training includes instruction on the principles of subject control and firearms qualifications.
*The starting pay rate is $18.65 per hour with approximately a $0.50/hour increase every 6 months for the first 2 years. A $0.45 differential will be paid for night hours worked, and a $0.60 differential will be paid for weekend hours worked.
