Custodian – Healthcare Facility

Performs general cleaning and disinfection tasks to maintain patient rooms, offices, hallways and other assigned areas of the hospital.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, good attendance, desire to complete tasks assigned, problem solving skills, and the ability to follow directions in relations to Health and Safety regulations.

1. Works in compliance with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. Is responsible for maintaining safety training and compliances through Health Stream. Follows all department guidelines and infection control practices. Is familiar with and can speak to Department’s Quality Indicators and the role that they have in achieving or surpassing targeted goals.
2. Dusts furniture, woodwork, flat surfaces, high dusts sprinkler heads, light fixtures, vents and walls. Disinfects equipment. Polishes, cleans and disinfects fixtures throughout hospital. Clean High Hand Touch Areas daily with disinfectant.
3. Operates vacuums. Operates a pager. Push carts safely.
4. Dusts and wet mops rooms, halls, stairways, restrooms and all public areas. Moves items to clean under and behind. Works safely using appropriate signage.
5. Cleans fixtures, windows, door frames and high areas using appropriate equipment.
6. Gathers and dispose of trash and waste materials including infectious waste.
7. Performs terminal cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares room for new patient; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms as trained.
8. Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, doors, showers and walls of bathrooms.
9. Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
10. Attends any and all meetings required.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

General Information/Qualifications:

1. High school degree or equivalent
2. Two weeks of in-house training
3. Moderate physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs.)
4. Be able to follow oral or written instructions
5. Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking
6. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching
7. Be able to interact courteously with patients and visitors while performing job duties.
