Job Details

We are looking for a Healthcare Billing Coordinator / Internal Auditor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the billing function and conducting critical examinations of our clinical and administrative processes, as well as our compliance with state and federal regulations, especially with respect to Medicaid processing. The primary focus will be on the evaluation of the design and operational effectiveness of the overall processing environment, with a keen focus on redesigning detective, manual processes with preventative, automated processes. He or she will also be responsible for developing and implementing corrective action plans when necessary. The ideal candidate will have experience in healthcare billing and auditing, as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Examine medical records to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as MWHS policies
  • Review patient charts to verify that documentation is complete and accurate
  • Identify any discrepancies and work with the appropriate parties to resolve them
  • Prepare detailed reports of findings and present them to management and the board of directors
  • Follow up on previous recommendations to ensure they have been addressed
  • Keep abreast of changes in laws and regulations that could impact the organization’s compliance
  • Train billing and provider personnel on proper procedures and techniques
  • Assist with investigations of potential fraud and abuse
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of other billing personnel’s work
  • Develop and implement examination plans for assigned areas
  • Participate in departmental meetings and committees
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information accessed during the course of work

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in auditing, with at least 2 years in healthcare billing / auditing
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficient in healthcare billing systems, such as EPIC, Centricity and / or ECW, as well as the Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel. Familiarity with Tableau, Access, ACL and / or QuickBase is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and research skills
  • Familiarity with the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) standards
