PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under direct supervision, this position is responsible for component production, labeling, record review, quarantine, training, and high complexity testing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Is responsible for bringing compliance issues to the attention of management.

Assures quality customer service to all customers.

Maintains accurate records and documentation.

Assists with training.

Performs record review, as assigned.

Performs moderate complexity testing (e.g. CMV testing, Hgb S testing and operation of a cell counter).

Performs preventive maintenance on equipment. Notifies appropriate personnel if additional service is needed.

Performs quarantine, as required.

Assists in reconciliation of reports.

Performs high complexity testing (e.g., antigen screens, antibody ID, and cross match).

Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.


REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge/Education
Associate’s degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology required.

Licenses/Certifications
MLT required (or must pass test within 6 months) or CLIA equivalent required.
State license, as required by regulations, required.

Experience
One-year laboratory experience required or MLT required. (No experience required with an MLT certification).

Skills/Abilities
Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Must be detail oriented and possess strong communication, organization, analytical, and decision-making skills and be able to comprehend and apply clinical laboratory procedures and theory.
Must be able to maintain donor, patient and employee confidentiality.
Must possess basic keyboarding skills and the ability to handle and operate laboratory equipment.
Must be able to work flexible shifts and overtime when necessary.
