- POSITION SUMMARYReporting to the SVP of Patient Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer, the Chief Nursing Informatics Officer is responsible for the planning, development, design, organization, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of automation for nursing practice throughout the enterprise. This position will serve as the key non-physician clinical liaison to the development and production teams for electronic systems impacting clinical processes and the Electronic Health Record (EHR with respect to clinical and workflow analysis). The CNIO will lead critical initiatives that influence improved clinical efficiencies in operations, financial and quality outcomes. A key part of the CNIO’s job is to be a ”translator” of technologies’ risks and benefits to clinical staff and for patients. This position is situated at the crossroads of technology and patient care.
- PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESHelp design and implement the strategy for innovative technology and processes to support the delivery of quality patient care and enhance the nursing practice in conjunction with the Director of Application Services and the Chief Medical Informatics Officer.
- In partnership with the CNO and Nursing Leadership team, guide Electronic Health Record (HER) and health IT systems design and implementation, evaluation, and options from the nursing practice perspective.
- Utilize the knowledge and skills of clinical practice and IT to work collegially with nursing leaders and IT to implement evidence-based systems that enable the delivery of effective, efficient nursing care.
- Serve as part of both IT and Nursing leadership groups and ensure that the goals of automating and optimizing the practice via technology are the same.
- Work in a highly matrixed mode with the CMIO, CIO, and IT Director(s) to develop the clinical system portfolio.
- Partner with nursing leadership to lead technology changes that advance health and the delivery of healthcare.
- Help implement systems that are interoperable, patient-centric and user friendly.
- Participate in inter/intra professional feasibility assessments to identify potential areas of system improvement. This includes an analysis of the current practice and process, technical options, and potential impact of the solution options on the workflow.
- Provide consultation in the analysis of potential options for requested complex enhancements to the EHR that impact multiple departments.
- Educate IT colleagues on healthcare operations and clinical processes to ensure that safe, patient-centric, and user-friendly systems are designed.
- Contribute to policy and procedure development that are to be used in conjunction with the evolving use of new and changing technologies.
- Maintain current knowledge of legal standards, regulatory standards, and standards of practice to assure that clinical systems support compliance with these standards.
- Serve as the primary liaison for all nursing departments with the Information Technology Division.
- Work in concert with all clinical departments, CMIO, Information Technology, Financial Services Division and Performance Improvement to achieve departmental and system-wide goals and initiatives.
- Define information and technology needs for nursing disciplines as they relate to the strategic plan for the health system.
- Identify information system applications that support or enhance nursing practice and other clinical disciplines.
- Support and optimize an electronic health record (EHR) that supports all phases of care throughout the organization and that delivers information for management and leadership processes.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of the patient care components of the EHR and automation of clinical practices. Serve as the nursing and clinical operational representative for process redesign and clinical workflow.
- Help identify the clinical data requirements of the directors, departments, committees, clinicians, and patients across the healthcare system and help coordinate the advancement of clinical information systems to satisfy these data requirements.
- Help create software-based designs and project implementation plans with staff and providers.
- Maintain current industry trends by attending educational events and conferences and participating in committee work.
- Apply information technology to nursing education.
- Utilize literature and best-practice guidelines to promote evidence-based practices as part of the EHR workflow design.
- Advocate for patients’ needs and rights pertaining to the Healthcare System’s clinical information systems.
- Participate in clinically relevant IT Teams and participate in efforts to enhance medical record functions, including record quality, record access, record content, and medical records policies and procedures.
- Respond to user s needs, including training, to ensure widespread acceptance and provider use of the clinical systems.

Education-

Licensure/certification
- Current registration in the State of New Hampshire as a Registered Nurse required.
- American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Informatics Nursing certification strongly preferred.
Experience – Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in an acute care setting required.

- Minimum of five (5) years of IS experience working with EHR teams implementing systems required.
- Must be an experience Nursing Informaticist to include expertise around the development, implementation, use and evaluation of core clinical information technologies used to improve clinical quality, safety, and operational integrity of the electronic health record.

- Advanced knowledge of a variety of applications as they relate to operational flow in a healthcare setting required.
