The Physical Therapist provides services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. The PT also examines patient’s medical history, evaluates their physical abilities, determines their potential to respond to therapy, and develops treatment plans. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates functional needs and outcomes, and establishes plan of care. Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of treatment and modifies as necessary.
  • Assesses educational and cultural needs of the patient, family, caregiver, or significant other and communicates accordingly to achieve maximum benefit of care.
  • Documents evaluations, treatment goals, and plans in accordance with Hospital requirements and established guidelines. Regularly updates documentation and maintains prescriptions and signatures.
  • Prepares plans for discharge.
  • Coordinates, delegates, and supervises responsibilities assigned to support staff.
  • Coordinates with interdisciplinary team on patient needs, treatment modifications, and progress.
  • Attends and participates in the weekly team conference.
  • May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies.
  • Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assesses the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
  • Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.

Minimum Job Requirements


Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Two years direct patient physical therapy care and treatment experience preferred.
  • Experience in rehabilitation hospital setting preferred.


Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation:

  • Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist required.
  • Basic Life Support/CPR Certification required.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates appropriate application of age specific standards, policies and procedures and guidelines in caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards to ensure adherence to all standards set forth by state and accrediting agencies of TJC and CMS.
  • Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures, and utilizes proper policies, procedures, and guidelines in caring for patients.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of treatment costs and financial support as they relate to quality and efficiency.

Physical Requirements Over the Course of a Shift:

  • A significant amount of standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods of time.
  • Both gross and precise motor functions.
  • Lifting/exerting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care.
  • Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
