Registered Nurse / GI Lab / Dayshift -flex and call – Moses Taylor Hospital – Scranton, PA

Position Qualifications:

• Current license to practice professional nursing issued by the State of Pennsylvania
• Current CPR Certification required
• Current ACLS required
• One year experience in GI Lab/Med-Surg/ICU/ PACU/OR preferred

Assesses patient and family needs upon admission and throughout the discharge from the GI Lab department.

Plans for population specific care.

Administers medications appropriately and safely.

Uses critical thinking skills when interpreting patient data. Manages emergency situations as they arise.

Demonstrates knowledge and an understanding of Infection prevention and Isolation procedures and strict adherence to the policies and procedures outlined in department manuals.

Formulates and implements care according to the standards of practice, policy and procedure.

Directs and coordinates patient care team. This includes direction of other team. members such as GI Tech’s. Delegates’ tasks appropriately to ancillary staff.

Leads or participates in identification of the patients and undivided attention with completion of the Time Out process.

Understands and is knowledgeable with the documentation and sterilization policies and procedures regarding flexible and rigid scopes.

Follows policy on properly handling and identifying specimens and communicates to surgeon to assure correct labeling consistently.

Demonstrates knowledge of instruments/scopes and their proper usage (Gastro/colon/ERCP /Ultrasonic scopes) and preparation for use prior to the start of the procedure.

Assists with training of new staff members as needed.

Assures effective communication with other RN’s, patients, surgeons, Anesthesia staff, and Peri-op Manager and Director.

Is competent in use of the electronic health record, and evaluates and documents care administered and patient response to care.

Operates all sterilization and cleaning equipment in the GI Lab department properly.

Utilizes / documents all available in house resources and departments for treatment and consultation.
