GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This job provides leadership and overall program administration for the AHN Schools of Nursing. Responsibilities include but are not limited to planning, organizing, directing, coordinating and controlling the operational and functional activities of the Schools of Nursing. The principle accountabilities of this position are to ensure the provision of quality educational programs in an environment of precious resources, comprehensive strategic planning for the future of both of the schools, anticipating and meeting the needs of the diverse student populations in the schools, evolving highly collaborative and interdependent professional relationships and systems to support the provision of quality, cost-effective nursing programs and anticipating nursing resource needs for AHN hospitals to effectively plan and execute student recruitment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transformational Leadership : Accountable for creating the vision for the future of the AHN Schools of Nursing through strategic planning and overall direction and scope of the schools in accordance with and support of the strategic system-wide goals. Designs and chairs Advisory Boards (Deans Roundtable and Bridging the Gap), Is accountable for final decisions about student admissions and progressions across all Schools of Nursing in collaboration with the local school Director of Nursing. Holds the final authority for the implementation of approved curriculum and school policies and procedures across all Schools of Nursing. (20%)
  • Structural Empowerment : Is accountable for creating a robust faculty development program to enable faculty to educate the future generation of nurses. Promotes faculty development through shared educational programs involving all Schools of Nursing as well as innovative teaching strategies and QSEN (Quality and Safety Education for Nurses) principles. Is accountable for designing student-centric systems and environments for the provision of Student Support Services (Student Counseling, Financial Aid and other related services). (20%)
  • Exemplary Professional Practice : Is expected to demonstrate a transformational, participative style of leadership through open and honest communication with colleagues. Promotes the conduct of the Schools business in accordance with the systems commitment to service excellence and dignity and respect. This involves serving as a role model to school leaders, faculty, support staff and students by consistently practicing excellence in customer service, communicating and interpreting system and school’s standards and holding others accountable for service excellence and dignity and respect. Models transformational leadership and exemplary professional practice through participating in organizations educational activities pertinent to nursing, nursing education, health care policy and trends, research and leadership. (20%)
  • New Knowledge and Innovation : Guides Directors, Associate Directors, faculty and support staff in overall policy creation and standardization, decision making, problem solving and work re-design to meet the Systems future needs for nurses. Has the autonomy to re-design work, re-align School’s organizational structures, develops new models of educational delivery to meet projected system needs. Is expected to hire, lead, evaluate and terminate direct subordinates in accordance with system policy and procedure. (15%)
  • Quality Empirical Outcomes : Is accountable for insuring the adoption of best practice approaches when standardizing student recruitment, admission and promotional strategies across all Schools of Nursing. Is accountable for designing systems that effectively evaluation students’ acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes and continually support student retention and graduation. Is accountable for overall fiscal management of all Schools of Nursing to assure that processes are standardized and cost effective. This includes shared accountabilities with the Chief Nursing Officers of the respective business units for salary, operational and construction budgets. Is responsible for ensuring all Schools of Nursing comply with all relevant internal, state and federal loan programs and student financial aid programs. Achieve benchmark performance with NCLEX pass rates for students. (15%)
  • Performs all steps necessary relative to hiring, evaluating, coaching, promoting, disciplining, & discharging employees by following established HR policies. (10%)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • 10 years in progressive Nursing management roles
  • 7 years of teaching experience in accredited nursing programs
  • PA RN License
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, oral and written communication

  • Demonstrates leadership and business management skills within a large, complex system

Preferred

  • Doctorate in Nursing
  • Professional Nursing Certification
