Physician Assistant – Oncology – Millennium Physicians Association – Spring, TX

Oncology Experience Required – Immediate Hire

General Summary of Duties: To promote, provide and maintain patient care under physician supervision in medical oncology at Millennium Physicians Group area locations. Affect patient care and outcomes throughout the disease process according to the policies and procedures provided by Millennium and the State of Texas as they pertain to Physician Assistants (PA). This includes the performance of complex tasks on a routine basis which may involve direct and indirect clinical care, research assistance, and administrative responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

· Conduct comprehensive assessment of patients throughout the continuum in the ambulatory setting based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.

· Direct care of patients with a wide range of oncologic diseases to include New Patients, Consultations, Follow-Up Patients

· Proficient use of EMR systems

· Perform and document history and physicals, order and review diagnostic studies, therapeutic procedures, prescribe medications, interaction and direct communication with referring physicians, collaboration with and direct reporting of patient information to the medical staff

· Coordinate care with other disciplines, build strong collaborative relationships across the organization and the local medical community as many patients require long term and multi-disciplinary care

· Direct care and management in the outpatient setting to include: initiation of evaluation, documentation of clinic visits, patient and family education, obtaining informed consent for treatment, documentation of telephone conversations, identification and treatment of treatment toxicities, management of symptoms, counseling and support, collaboration with and referrals to other health care providers, and provision of education to nursing staff, students, and the community

· Treatment planning with Physicians, active participation in tumor board review and discussion of cases

· Engage in peer-to-peer reviews with insurance

· Perform credentialed procedures

· Contribute to the development, modification, and interpretation of oncology guidelines, policies, procedures, including quality assurance activities

· Participate in clinical research as appropriate

· Attend conferences and continuing education/staff development programs to maintain knowledge of current literature and guidelines for care

Experience:

· 2-4 years experience as a practicing Physician Assistant

· 2-4 years Medical Oncology experience

Requirements: Degree requirements as defined by Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as a Physician Assistant. Written authorization from the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as Physician Assistant in the State of Texas

Knowledge/Skills:

· Broad knowledge of medical terminology and pathology, a broad knowledge of adult learning principles and how to apply these principles to teaching
Ability to operate all types of equipment and perform routine and special procedures used in the daily care of the specialty-specific population, the ability to work effectively with others, and the ability to demonstrate leadership qua
