Certified Athletic Trainer – SALIDA HOSPITAL DISTRICT – Salida, CO

ESSENTIAL DUTIES PER AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY
1. Performs the duties per the Athletic Training Scope of Practice, including but not limited to:
a. Responsible for Athletic Training Services to area high schools as assigned.
b. Provide Athletic Training coverage in person for all home athletic contests at assigned schools as scheduling allows and coordinate coverage with school district’s athletic
directors. Should a conflict arise between sport schedules, the athletic trainer will determine most appropriate coverage. Additional coverage as assigned by Athletic
Training Coordinator and /or Clinic Manager
c. Provide Athletic Training services to junior high students as needed
d. Development and implementation of the HRRMC Concussion Policy at area schools
e. Provide Concussion Education to area schools, coaching staffs, student athletes, parents and area medical professionals
f. Development and annual review of Emergency Action Plans at each assigned school

g. Coordinate appropriate EMS services at sporting events / schedule annual meeting with local EMS groups
h. Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments and referrals via the provided EHR
i. Track injury trends and develop appropriate injury prevention protocols
j. Assist with annual bid to various vendors for athletic training supplies to provide the covered schools with the most competitive pricing possible
k. Maintain supply budget and athletic training supply inventory at each covered school
l. Aid in the development and expansion of the HRRMC Athletic Training Program
m. Travel coverage for post season tournament play as deemed necessary (i.e. football playoffs, soccer playoffs etc.)
n. Provide Athletic Training services for all school summer camps as appropriate and determined by the ADs, coaches and athletic trainer.
o. Act as a liaison between family physicians, specialists, the school districts, coaches, athletes and their parents.
p. Organize and utilize a student athletic training program to incorporate high school students from the respective schools to assist in providing appropriate athletic training services for practices and games.
r. Organize and administer the ImPACT test (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) for all athletes as specified in HRRMC Concussion Policy.

OTHER DUTIES as needed in the Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center :

a. Prepare exam rooms to receive patients before patients arrive and after patients leave.
b. Escort patients from the waiting area to the exam room, cast room, or x-ray.
c. Provide direct patient care and support during the clinics as necessary.
h. Provide home exercise protocols for patients per the doctor’s request.
i. Responsible for patient brace/crutch fitting and product education.
l. Aide physician in procedures as needed.
m. Participate in wound care and wound dressing.
o. Maintain clinic flow between all areas of clinic.
p. Learn, assist and perform casting functions.
r. Participate in stocking and cleaning of all clinic areas.
3. Interacts positively with new recruits presenting the organization in a positive manner.
4. Communicates any concerns or issues directly with their provider whenever possible or consults immediately with their immediate supervisor.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant subject, completion of the minimum required hours of supervised clinical experience or internship in athletic training and passed the Board of Certification exam,
  • or
  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree with a major in athletic training from an accredited athletic training program completed the minimum required hours of supervised clinical experience or internship in athletic training and passed the Board of Certification exam.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

1. Current, active Athletic Training certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification Inc.

2. Current or ability to obtain Colorado Athletic Training Licensure

3. Current CPR Certification

4.Clear and valid Colorado Driver’s license and proof of current automobile insurance coverage

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Center, delivers comprehensive athletic training services to athletes of area school districts and persons athletics programs as well as patients in clinic as described in and not to exceed the “Athletic Trainer Scope of Practice” put forth by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. Athletic training includes services appropriate for the prevention, recognition, assessment, management, treatment and rehabilitation and reconditioning of injuries and illnesses sustained by an athlete.
