POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for maintaining the facilities and equipment in a safe and efficient manner, in accordance with established procedures, and as directed by the Director of Plant Operations.

Education / Licensure:

High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

Skills:

1) Ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions; 2) Knowledge of safe maintenance practices, procedures and guidelines; 3) Knowledge in general carpentry, sheetrock, plumbing and heating and cooling equipment; 4) Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers; and 5) Working knowledge of maintenance related equipment i.e. power tools, welding equipment, etc.

Additional Requirements:

At least 1 year maintenance experience in a health care facility preferred. Annual professional skills verification and (psychiatric crisis management) certification. Must be willing and able to work flexible hours or overtime, including weekends and holidays.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Customer Service

1. In-person and telephone communication is consistently attentive, responsive and reflects “helpfulness”.

2. Professional awareness and boundaries are observed. Unnecessary self-disclosure is minimized.

3. Telephones are answered by the third ring whenever possible and a professional greeting. Dedicated extensions/mobile phones with voice mail have a personalized greeting, and messages retrieved / responded to in a timely manner.

4. Critical customer encounters are met with advanced customer service skills and resolved.

Maintenance Duties

1. Receives and follow maintenance schedule/instructions from the Director of Plant Operations and as outlined in the maintenance policies and procedures.

2. Performs daily routine maintenance and repair on the facilities and equipment to include: plumbing, sheet rock, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, painting, sign making and changing, etc., as directed by the Director of Plant Operations and in accordance with established procedure.

3. At all times follows established safety procedures and precautions when performing maintenance service.

4. Maintains general plant and facilities in good repair, ensuring a safe, clean and orderly environment.

5. Replaces burned out light bulbs, to include exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights and room call lights, etc.

6. Services heating and cooling units/systems, as specified by the manufacturer, and in compliance with established policies and procedures.

7. Performs unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed daily.

8. Reports equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to the Director of Plant Operations as soon as possible.

9. Reports all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc. to the Director of Plant Operations immediately.

10. Ensures maintenance supplies are ordered, locally picked up or obtained and properly stored in maintenance area.

11. Assures that the facilities and their equipment is properly maintained for patient comfort and convenience.

12. Assures that work/assignment areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of work day, etc.

13. Keeps the work area(s) free of hazardous conditions i.e. grease/oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc. to assure that all established safety rules/regulations are followed.

14. Follows established policies and procedures concerning infection control when performing maintenance services in isolation rooms/areas.

15. Assists the Director of Plant Operations in assuring preventative maintenance schedule is kept up-to-date.

16. Performs fire drills quarterly.

17. Checks patient electrical equipment daily.

18. Complies with all facility policies and procedures.

19. Practices standard precautions and environmental safety guidelines.

20. Maintains confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.

21. Supervises functions of the EVS department.

22. Ensures that all EVS functions are completed in a timely manner.

23. Ensures that supply PAR levels are maintained at all times for the EVS department.

24. Performs any other duties assigned by the Director of Plant Operations.

Job Type: Full-time
