About Us: Counseling4Kids (C4K) has been serving children and families for over 20 years. We were founded with the goal of providing mental health services to children in Los Angeles County’s foster care system. We responded to the immense need for mental health services to help these children heal from the abuse and neglect they had suffered. Initially, the C4K treatment program had eight therapists providing services for 25 clients. Today C4K has grown to serve approximately 1600 children per year. Most of our clients have experienced trauma from severe abuse and neglect. Job Summary: The MAT Assessor Licensed Therapist reports to the Clinical Supervisor, providing in-home and school-based specialty Mental Health Services to young children from ages zero to five throughout Service Area 2 or Service Area 8. The MAT Assessor will provide comprehensive community-based therapy services to infants, young children, and their families using standard therapy practices and documentation protocols according to the Department of Mental Health (DMH). The MAT Assessor is responsible for meeting weekly productivity expectations (26 billable hours of care on average each week), and maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records using the electronic health record system, EXYM, for all services rendered, in accordance with State of California and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. MAT Assessors may supplement their caseload with non-MAT focuses cases in order to meet billing expectations and respond to the needs of our community.

The MAT Assessor will travel to our clients’ homes and/or schools to provide services. Counseling4Kids emphasizes quality treatment and trauma-informed care. Our Services are primarily Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI), using the evidence-based treatment models of TF-CBT, MAP, CPP, PCIT, Triple P and Seeking Safety. Through Stepped care, the therapist will provide Infant Massage services, in which parents learn to use nurturing touch to foster positive connections with their infant. MAT Assessor perform thorough assessments for children that have recently been removed from their home by DCFS. Our clients have high rates of trauma exposure and the majority have parents or caregivers who are involved with the Department of Children and Family Services. They will also have the additional opportunity to obtain training, experience, and supervision required for endorsement as an Infant-Family Early Childhood Mental Health Professional. Therapists in our MAT program may also carry cases with older children and teens. This will provide a balanced clinical experience and allows our agency to respond to the needs of our community.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree required in Clinical Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, Counseling, or Social Work
• Licensed as an MFT, LCSW, or Psychologist and current, unrestricted registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
• Two years or more previous experience working with children and families
• Experience providing mental health services requiring diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning and crisis intervention, as well as providing the various modalities of therapy
• Must be able to document in a clear and concise manner and in accordance with DMH and other program standards using the EXYM
• Strong commitment to children and families, and a willingness to take the steps necessary to assure their well-being
• Valid California Driver’s license and copies of all current certifications to the facility.
• Knowledge of the L.A. County Department of Mental Health system is a plus
• Experience, training, and/or strong interest in working with clients ages birth to five presenting with symptoms of trauma and/or disruptive behavior.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
• Experience with young children in a MH setting and/or in other settings
• MAT Trainings: DC: 0-5 and ICARE, Other core B-5 trainings
• Training/Certification/Rostered in Parent-Child Interaction Therapist and/or Child-Parent Psychotherapy
• Working towards endorsement as an Infant Family Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist

Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides evidenced based interventions and/or MAT based on DMH and C4K guidelines
• Works collaboratively with clients and the clinical team to develop a comprehensive assessment, treatment plan and desired treatment outcomes
• Maintains clients records related to assessment, treatment, progress toward goals and objectives, discharge summary, and treatment outcomes that are accurate, concise, timely, and useful for coordinating treatment team planning, monitoring, and review
• Participates in treatment team meetings and makes recommendations as appropriate
• Maintains agency billing requirements- 26 Billable hours of Care
• Seeks guidance and remains knowledgeable of, and complies with, all applicable federal and state laws, as well as company policies that apply to assigned duties
• Complies with the company’s and Board of Behavioral Sciences’ (BBS) expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct
• Other duties as assigned

Supervisor Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to remain in a stationary (stand/sit) position at least 50% of the time. This person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Frequently communicates with staff, clients, families and other community organizations and must be able to exchange accurate information. Regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions when out in the community.
