Director, Quality Management

MAIN FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Vice President, Quality, the QI Director is responsible for coordinating organizational wide process improvement initiatives This includes accountability for the daily operations and supervision of Quality Outcomes Management, Patient Safety, Regulatory Compliance and Peer Review. This position is responsible for assisting the Vice President, Quality with the strategic direction of the Quality Management Program with integration of clinical/financial information to maintain and improve quality. This position is responsible for contributing to hospital-wide and departmental process improvement initiatives. This involves performing assessments and analysis of operations and processes utilizing Lean principles and tools. Facilitates change by working with teams to generate viable process improvement initiatives based on data driven measures. Provides oversight to abstraction processes and submission of quality measures as mandated by external review organizations. The QI Manager works well with department managers and medical staff to promote, design and implement improvements and innovations at WCH. To achieve defined outcomes, the QI Manager engenders commitment, encourage cultural changes, disseminates information and provides support for safety process changes.

The purpose of the QI Manager is patient-centeredness, process efficiency and waste reduction,

promoting safe and reliable patient care.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Vice President, Quality Management

MUST HAVE REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field

Statistics coursework.

5 years clinical experience in an acute care setting.

Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

Ability to work as a change agent with process improvement teams, management and medical staff

Proficient in process improvement methodology, such as lean training with achievement of green belt certification

Proficiency with designing data display such as spread sheets, tables & run charts.

Proficiency with Microsoft access, excel, word and Meditech abstracting.

Analytical ability to evaluate problem situations in-depth and come to independent, appropriate decisions.

Experience leading teams

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively adapt content and style to diverse audiences

Experience in direct operations management, performance improvement, consulting or related experience

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES:

Certification is Quality Management and/or Lean /Six Sigma Black Belt

under the direction of a Master Black Belt

Master’s degree in nursing, Public Health or Business Administration.

Conceptual understanding of care management

ISO 9001 Certification experience

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Employee in this position may be exposed to blood, body fluids and/or airborne pathogen and is required to wear barriers.

Daily work may exceed eight hours

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

* Assists Lean participants in the development of standardized workflows, instructions and procedures

* Tracks progress for process improvement events to ensure completed and documented improvements are realized and maintained

* Trains personnel on quality improvement principles; strategic priorities and mapping systems, cost savings/standardization opportunities within operations.

* Demonstrates project leadership skills and ability to train and facilitate multi-functional teams in problem solving, process improvement and development of control plans

* Assists with the development of a Quality Management System to achieve ISO 9001 certification

* Uses Quality Engineering principles, tools and practices to develop and optimize systems and processes that are aligned with the overall business and the quality vision

* Analyzes current state workflows and processes and defines opportunities

* Identifies improvement opportunities sustained by metrics to increase adoption and adherence in key department, customers, optimized process procedures or workflows to gain efficiencies.

* Support the implementation of statistically valid and reliable data collection, input, retrieval, analysis and report generation as well as automation of data collection, retrieval and reporting to eliminate waste and duplication of effort

* Leads and facilitates assigned process improvement events including but not limited to: rapid improvement events, kaizen events, value stream analysis, and “just do its”

* Collaborates with key clinical, administrative and quality leaders to prioritize opportunities for process improvement

* Supports and facilitates a multidisciplinary approach to problem solving and process improvement.

* Communicates the findings and recommendations of event results (using written reports, presentations, tools, etc) with the clinical, administrative and/or quality staff
