About Us:
Counseling4Kids (C4K) has been serving children and families for over 20 years. We were founded with the goal of providing mental health services to children in Los Angeles County’s foster care system. We responded to the immense need for mental health services to help these children heal from the abuse and neglect they had suffered. Initially, the C4K treatment program had eight therapists providing services for 25 clients. Today C4K has grown to serve approximately 1600 children per year. Most of our clients have experienced trauma from severe abuse and neglect. Our range of services include: individual therapy, family therapy, psychological evaluation, medication support, case management and referral to community resources. C4K is currently in a transformative state as we are looking to build a large team of highly skilled, licensed therapists providing assessments and weekly therapy to children and youth. Job Summary:
The Associate Clinician reports to the Clinical Supervisor II, providing in-home and school-based specialty Mental Health Services throughout Service Area 2 or Service Area 8.

The Associate Clinician will provide comprehensive community-based therapy services to children and their families using standard therapy practices and documentation protocols according to the Department of Mental Health (DMH). The Associate Therapist is responsible for meeting weekly productivity expectations (26 billable hours of care), carrying a caseload of approximately 19-20 clients, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date case records using the electronic health record system, EXYM, for all services rendered, in accordance with State of California and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

The Associate Clinician will travel to our clients’ homes and/or schools to provide services. Counseling4Kids emphasizes quality treatment and trauma-informed care. Our Services are primarily Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI), using the evidence-based treatment models of TF-CBT, MAP, CPP, PCIT, Triple P and Seeking Safety. We also have a MAT program whose assessors perform thorough assessments for children that have recently been removed from their home by DCFS. Associate Therapists will receive training in one of more of these models/programs to meet the treatment needs of our clients. Our clients have high rates of trauma exposure and the majority have parents or caregivers who are involved with the Department of Children and Family Services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required in Clinical Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, Counseling, or Social Work
  • License-eligible MSW Associate or Associate MFT and current, unrestricted registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
  • One year or more previous experience working with children and families
  • Experience providing mental health services requiring diagnostic evaluation, treatment planning and crisis intervention, as well as providing the various modalities of therapy
  • Must be able to document in a clear and concise manner and in accordance with DMH and other program standards using the EXYM
  • Strong commitment to children and families, and a willingness to take the steps necessary to assure their well-being
  • Valid California Driver’s license and copies of all current certifications to the facility.
  • Knowledge of the L.A. County Department of Mental Health system is a plus
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred


  • Maintain a high level of professional practice and promote positive individual relations

  • Knowledge of the principles and current practices in the field of psychotherapy
  • Effectively conduct individual and family therapy with various age groups
  • Knowledge and practice of ethical principles
  • Ability to present ideas with a high degree of effectiveness, both verbally and written
  • Establish rapport and confidence with clients and their families

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides evidenced based interventions and/or MAT based on DMH and C4K guidelines
  • Works collaboratively with clients and the clinical team to develop a comprehensive assessment, treatment plan and desired treatment outcomes
  • Maintains clients records related to assessment, treatment, progress toward goals and objectives, discharge summary, and treatment outcomes that are accurate, concise, timely, and useful for coordinating treatment team planning, monitoring, and review
  • Participates in treatment team meetings and makes recommendations as appropriate
  • Maintains agency billing requirements- 20 Billable hours of Care
  • Seeks guidance and remains knowledgeable of, and complies with, all applicable federal and state laws, as well as company policies that apply to assigned duties
  • Complies with the company’s and Board of Behavioral Sciences’ (BBS) expectations regarding ethical behavior and standards of conduct
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisor Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
