Residential Counselor – Valley Youth House – Bethlehem, PA

We are currently looking for a qualified applicant to fill the following position:
FT – Residential Counselor (3p-11p) ($19.50hr – $23hr) $1500 Sign-on bonus! $750 at start and $750 at 6 months!

Job Description: The Residential Counselor is responsible for client supervision, guidance, activities of daily living, and all aspects of day-to-day program functions, which include: site monitoring, community relations issues, and liaison-related contacts. This also includes implementing goal plans with youth/clients, tracking their accomplishments, and assisting in maintaining all documents related to the client records. The Residential Counselor is under the authority of the Senior Vice-President and directly reports to the Program Supervisor/Program Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Successfully engage youth/client in implementing their individual plan using positive youth development, trauma-informed, and culturally appropriate frameworks. Activities of daily living with youth/client, include but are not limited to academic and career planning, permanent relationships/mentoring, housing/household maintenance, priority setting, money management, and health and wellness.
  • A minimum of 90% of the working hours will be spent providing quality in-person goal planning, supervision & safety, well-being, recreation, case management, and other services according to the youth’s/clients identified level of service.
  • Ensure up-to-date paper & electronic client records in compliance with the program, county, state, and federal regulations and private grant requirements, as applicable.
  • Attend both external and internal agency training and workshops; complete and pass all required training hours and annual training as set forth in the funder and licensing regulations.


KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Administer medication to assigned youth in compliance with regulations.
  • Oversee site maintenance/cleanliness in compliance with program, county, state, and federal regulations and private grant requirements, as applicable; responsible for timely submission of follow-up paperwork.
  • Represent the program and agency in a professional manner and maintain positive community relationships in a proactive manner.
  • Clear and effective communication with the case manager, supervisor, and parent/guardians as required during shifts.
  • Participation in on-call rotations as required by program area (Maybe N/A for some programs).
  • Intervene and report any crisis or critical incident as defined by agency and/or county, state, or federal regulations according to the agency’s formalized practice and protocols.
  • Participate in weekly scheduled supervision with a direct supervisor and be prepared with an agenda.


OTHER DUTIES:

  • Understand and adhere to Valley Youth House policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Build genuine relationships that support families, ensure safe places, and help youth achieve their desired futures.
  • Attend and actively participate in team meetings.
  • Timely and accurate completion of personnel materials (i.e. timesheets, mileage reimbursement, etc.)
  • Complete other related tasks as appropriate or assigned.
  • Possibility of working weekends and/or nights, as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A mature individual with the ability to identify with and adapt to the goals and philosophies of positive youth development in the independent living program.
  • Possess sound judgment and knowledge of adolescent behavior and development.
  • Display organizational skills and highly adept at managing multiple tasks and assignments.
  • Successful team members are creative thinkers, flexible in their approaches to people and projects, and are capable of working with diverse groups of the population.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and ability to operate agency vehicles.
  • The ability to navigate stairs is highly preferred (as some locations are not always handicap-friendly).
  • Proficient in computer knowledge & skills (i.e. Microsoft Windows software); familiarity with the operations of external databases and Google Suite is desired.
  • Never have been convicted of any prohibited criminal or child abuse offense.
  • A minimum of one year of experience working with adolescents is preferred.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in human services OR an equivalent combination of experience (in the field) with higher education is preferred.
