The Fayetteville VA Health Care System is seeking to hire a gastroenterologist to serve the veteran population. The Gastroenterology (GI) Physician will provide expert consultation and treatment to patients in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings, including, but not limited to, specific GI clinics, GI procedures, and for inpatient medical, surgical, and critical care services. In this role, the incumbent will also provide feedback and patient education to the patients and their families and will demonstrate excellence in all facets of patient care and meets or exceeds compliance standards. He or she will perform the following functions: Evaluate, diagnose, consult, and order appropriate diagnostic studies and treatments for all GI patients assigned under their care. The incumbent will provide consultative evaluations for other services, including general medical wards, surgical wards, and the emergency department, and perform administrative functions and other tasks as assigned by the Section Chief or Chief of the Medicine Service.

The incumbent is expected to remain privileged and practicing in medical services. The exact privileges and procedures for a particular physician will be approved by the Professional Standards Board. All physicians must meet the following qualifications:
Patient Care: Physicians are expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life. Tasks also include indirect patient care: open encounters and open consult maintenance, CPRS documentation requirements, and monitoring of clinic management. May be assigned duty as a supervising or collaborating physician for an APP. Physicians are expected to provide clinical oversight and review. Supervising or collaborating responsibilities and performance will be noted in the physician’s performance evaluation
Medical/Clinical Knowledge: Physicians are expected to demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, and social sciences, and the application of their knowledge to patient care and the education of others.
Clinical Judgment: To ensure practice-based learning and improvement, practitioners are expected to be able to use scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.
Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Physicians are expected to demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team.
Professionalism: Physicians are expected to demonstrate behaviors that reflect a commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and understanding and sensitivity to diversity, and a responsible attitude toward their patients and their profession.

Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday; 8:00 – 4:30
