The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services’ (NDCS) Substance Use Team is seeking a DRIVEN and IMPACTFUL Fully Licensed/Provisional Alcohol and Drug Counselor to provide Substance Use Counseling Services to the inmate population. Under limited supervision, provides advanced professional counseling and treatment for chemically dependent residents of a state correctional facility. Incumbents of this class perform independently receiving minimal supervision/direction through conferences/staff meetings with the supervisor. Incumbents may be responsible for coordination of the activities of other chemical dependency counselors.

NDCS employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. The department’s focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Additional $3.00/hour facility differential for hours worked.

Pay commensurate with licensure:
PLADC: $22.534/hour
LADC: $26.435/hour
LADC/PLMHP : $28.417/hour
LADC/LMHP : $30.548/hour

Location: Lincoln, Omaha, Tecumseh, York and McCook

Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30-4:00

Examples of Work

Facilitate educational, individual, and/or group counseling sessions related to substance abuse. Plan, review, and revise inmate/parolee programs/treatment plans; complete parole progress reports/personalized plans, maintain written documentation, files, and reports; serve on assigned committees; perform evaluations/ personal history reviews; plan follow up treatment services.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Nebraska license as an Alcohol/Drug Abuse Counselor. Legal Requirements: Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, addictions or sociology plus two thousand hours of supervised clinical work experience OR a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, addictions or sociology plus four thousand hours of supervised clinical work experience OR an Associate’s degree in addictions or chemical dependency plus five thousand hours of supervised clinical work experience OR a high school diploma or equivalent plus six thousand hours of supervised clinical work experience. (Nebraska Revised Statutes, Chapter 38, Section 38-316). Experience working with an incarcerated population; work experience in substance abuse treatment area. Bachelors degree in Behavioral Science field preferred. Either fully or provisionally licensed as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor in Nebraska.

OTHER:
Proof of licensure and transcripts required prior to scheduled interview. Successful completion of background check. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
