A Day in the Life of ARU Clinical Liaison:

Develops and implements educational and community relations activities to support an awareness and utilization of Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) services. Requires travel to various locations and use of a personal vehicle with insurance coverage. Contributes to program development, quality improvement, problem solving and productivity enhancement in a collaborative, team-focused manner.

Here Is What You Will Be Doing:

  • Review patient medical charts and conduct thorough patient assessments to identify potential admissions into ARU. Clearly and professionally interact with patients and family, while gathering additional clinical information and past history.
  • Complete detailed preadmission screens according to standard guidelines and payer requirements, as applicable. Provides patient updates to physicians, payers, case managers, social workers and relevant persons.
  • Target area research including analysis of like programs and alternative levels of care.
  • Participate in direct contact with patients and patient representatives as required for clinical services, educational services, or quality assurance.
  • In cooperation with Program Director, Medical director and ARU Manager develops educational and community relations plans. Actively engages external facilities for education, marketing and referral potential for ARU program.
  • Responsible for completing monthly operations summary reports.
  • Report operational and patient referral information to Medical Director, Program Director, Unit Manager, Therapy coordinator, and other team members as applicable. Function as a resource for, and provides team members with, in-service/cross training on acute rehabilitation criteria, diagnostic case mix management, coding, etc., as applicable.
  • Participate in program quality management activities. Collect quality review data, participate in survey preparation activities, unit safety activities and educational offerings for ARU. Contribute to the development of improved efficiency, productivity, and cost effectiveness of care for ARU clinical/administrative functions.
  • Assist in covering the duties of the Acute Rehab Quality Coordinator and/or ARU RN Case Manager as needed.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with physicians, nursing management, discharge planners, case managers and social workers
  • General knowledge of pharmaceuticals, test results, therapy evaluations, pre-existing medical conditions
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently screen patient records
  • Ability to travel in the community and/or regional vicinity to meet clients and promote the ARU program
